A multi-criteria GIS-based model for wind farm site selection with the least impact on environmental pollution using the OWA-ANP method

Marzieh Mokarram et al.

Summary: Wind energy is an efficient and low-impact way to generate electricity. This study used interpolation maps and the ANP and OWA methods to identify suitable locations for wind power plants based on key parameters. The results showed that wind speed and protected areas were the most and least important factors for building power plants.

Integrating Ecosystems and Socioeconomic Systems to Identify Ecological Security Pattern and Restoration Strategy in a Rapidly Urbanizing Landscape

Jieqi Tan et al.

Summary: This paper focuses on the identification of ecological security patterns (ESPs) in a rapidly urbanizing metropolitan area. By considering the trade-off between ecosystems and socioeconomic systems, ecosystem sources, ecological corridors, and restoration strategies were identified. The research suggests that the balance between ecosystems and socioeconomic systems is crucial for the construction of ESPs.

Comprehensive assessment of ecological risk in southwest Guangxi-Beibu bay based on DPSIR model and OWA-GIS

Ze Zhang et al.

Summary: The study found that high risk levels were observed in karst areas, coastal areas of Beibu Gulf, and areas with intensive human activities. Forest areas in Baise showed low-risk levels under different perspectives. Vulnerability, resources, and disasters affect each other's ecological risks, with higher-risk levels in Chongzuo Karst area, Nanning urban area, Beihai, and Fangchenggang. The comprehensive ecological risk presents a transitional distribution from low-risk in the northwest mountainous area to high-risk in the southeast coastal area.

A conceptual framework for a multi-criteria decision support tool to select technologies for resource recovery from urban wastewater

Seda Sucu et al.

Summary: In the context of circular economy, wastewater can be used to address challenges in transitioning to renewable resources for water, energy, and nutrients. Despite extensive research and development in resource recovery from urban wastewater, its implementation remains limited. This study introduces a decision support tool framework to assist in selecting the best treatment train for resource recovery, taking into account various factors such as operational limitations and sustainability objectives.

Protecting the global ocean for biodiversity, food and climate

Enric Sala et al.

Summary: The ocean is facing threats to biodiversity and ecosystem services, with only a small percentage highly protected in Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) due to conflicts with fisheries and other uses. Developing a flexible conservation planning framework to prioritize highly protected MPAs in areas with multiple benefits could substantially increase ocean protection and address global issues of biodiversity, food security, and climate action.
