Summary: The study reveals that China's power system will achieve near zero emissions by 2052 and reach negative carbon emissions of 225 million tons per year by 2060 under the carbon neutrality commitment. This will be achieved through the integration of high-share renewable energy and the deployment of disruptive technologies. The installed capacity of coal power cofiring with biomass will be 230GW, while biomass power equipped with carbon capture will have an installed capacity of 102GW. These efforts will result in a reduction of 30.32 billion tons of CO2 emissions during the 2021-2060 period, with contributions from demand-side management, new energy storage, cross-region power transmission, and carbon capture technology.

Summary: Increasing municipal solid waste (MSW) generation is a major sustainability challenge and financial burden for municipalities worldwide. However, it also presents an opportunity to promote a circular economy. This study aims to provide access to current MSW data by establishing a comprehensive framework for understanding different aspects of MSW knowledge. By analyzing existing databases and governmental reports, the study generates insights into the complex nature of solid waste management systems (SWMS) and offers evidence-based decision-making tools for researchers and policymakers. The findings highlight the positive drivers towards achieving the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal 12, such as economic development, density factors, sustainability initiatives, education, and regulation.

Summary: Waste tire management is a major global environmental issue, and finding low-cost and industrial-scale tire recycling methods is gaining more attention. The sustainable development of rubber devulcanization technologies and the appropriate design of cradle-to-cradle loops for rubber goods are considered promising strategies for achieving a higher level of rubber recycling. This work presents an overview of patented waste tire rubber devulcanization technologies and discusses their performance characteristics, environmental aspects, and limitations. The findings show that the reclaimed rubbers described in patents have higher tensile strength and elongation break compared to literature data or commercial products, with significant differences attributed to devulcanization efficiency and rubber treatment conditions. Considering environmental and economic aspects, reactive extrusion is identified as the most promising method for further developing rubber devulcanization technologies.

Summary: The construction industry has a significant impact on global warming and resource consumption. Carbon concrete (CC), a composite material made of concrete and carbon fibers, shows lower footprints compared to steel-reinforced concrete (SC) over its entire life-cycle, especially in terms of material and building levels. The use of carbon fibers allows for reduced cement and aggregate consumption, resulting in decreased environmental impacts.

Summary: End-of-life tires are currently not being effectively recycled, with most being incinerated or landfilled. However, processes such as retreading, pulverization, and devulcanization show promise for tire recycling. The use of supercritical carbon dioxide (sc-CO2) pulverization and solvent extraction can improve recycling efficiency. Pyrolysis of tires and the production of activated carbon are also important methods for tire recovery.

Summary: This study conducted an impact-oriented water footprint analysis to quantify the environmental burdens of crop production in China, finding that the main environmental burdens come from direct consumption, fertilizer production, and diesel production. The overall burdens increased steadily from 2008 to 2015 and then declined in 2016, with agricultural economic scale and crop productivity being the largest positive and negative contributors to burden growth. High-high agglomerations of burdens were mostly located in regions with superior natural resource endowments and dense population, suggesting the need for water-saving technologies and eco-friendly production methods in these areas.
