Multi-mode vibration attenuation of mistuned bladed disks by frictional tuned mass dampers array

Shuai Wang et al.

Summary: This study proposes an effective method for multi-mode vibration attenuation of mistuned bladed disk (blisk) using a ring-like array structure composed of multiple frictional tuned mass dampers (FTMDs). The method employs a 3D finite element method to model the blisk-FTMD array system and takes into account the rotordynamic effects in rotating conditions. Numerical results show that the method is capable of effectively reducing the multi-mode vibration of blisks.

A Friction-Enhanced Tuned Ring Damper for Bladed Disks

Andrea Lupini et al.

Summary: This study introduces a new type of damper for turbomachinery blisks, designed as a tuned vibration absorber. By allowing energy transfer from blades to damper, the relative motion of the damper is increased, while frictional contacts dissipate the transferred energy. The damper must be stiff to withstand centrifugal loading without affecting preload, yet compliant to match natural frequencies of the host structure.

Control of mistuning level using hard coating for blisks based on mistuning identification technique

Kunpeng Xu et al.

Summary: A novel control method using hard coating is proposed to control the mistuning level of blisks, where the thickness of the hard coating is designed according to the mistuning state of blisk substrate. The method effectively reduces vibration localization and controls mistuning levels in the designed coated blisks.

Optimizing Piezoelectric Material Location and Size for Multiple-Mode Vibration Reduction of Turbomachinery Blades

Christopher R. Kelley et al.

Summary: Modern turbomachinery blades have low inherent damping which can lead to high transient vibrations and failure. Using smart materials, particularly piezoelectric-based ones, can reduce vibrations effectively while harvesting sufficient energy. Placing the piezoelectric material in regions of high strain energy and targeting multiple vibration modes can achieve vibration reduction across all targeted modes.
