Hydrothermally synthesized aster flowers of MnCo2O4 for development of high-performance asymmetric coin cell supercapacitor

S. S. Rendale et al.

Summary: In this study, MnCo2O4 was grown on Ni-foam by hydrothermal method with different deposition times. The structural, morphological, and electrochemical properties of the MnCo2O4 electrodes were systematically characterized. XRD analysis revealed the cubic crystal system of MnCo2O4 with the Fd3m space group. FESEM images displayed a morphological evolution from nanograins to aster-flower-like nanostructures. The stoichiometry of Mn, Co, and O elements as well as their valence states were investigated by EDS and XPS, respectively. The aster-flower-like MnCo2O4 nanostructure (8 h) exhibited an areal capacitance of 11.4 Fcm-2 and an energy density of about 0.98 mWhcm-2 at a current density of 3 mAcm-2 within the -0.3 to 0.5 V potential window. An asymmetric coin cell (ASCC) device showed an areal capacitance of 47.4 mFcm-2, energy density of 13.0 μWhcm-2, and power density of about 0.525 mWcm-2 with exceptional cyclability of 95% measured up to 9000 cycles.

All-Solid-State Supercapacitor Based on Advanced 2D Vanadium Disulfide/Black Phosphorus Hybrids for Wearable Electronics

Aditya Sharma et al.

Summary: Vanadium disulfide-black phosphorus (VS2-BP) hybrids were synthesized via hydrothermal-assisted method to enhance their electrochemical activity for supercapacitor applications. The concentration of BP was optimized to prevent restacking of VS2 and increase active edges for electrolytic ion intercalation. With a PVA/K2SO4 gel electrolyte, an all-solid-state (ASS) VS2-BP-50 symmetric device was developed on highly conductive carbon paper, exhibiting superior performance than previous literature. Density functional theory (DFT) suggested that charge accumulation between VS2 and BP monolayers, as well as charge transfer, contribute to improved density of states in VS2-BP hybrid.

Chemical vapor deposition: a potential tool for wafer scale growth of two-dimensional layered materials

Mohammed El Hammoumi et al.

Summary: The rapidly growing demand for high-performance and low-power electronic and photonic devices has led to increased attention towards novel two-dimensional layered materials, such as graphene, MoS2, and phosphorene. These materials have the potential to replace the existing semiconductor industry due to their excellent electrical conductivity, strong light-matter interaction, and ability to scale down devices to the atomic level. Chemical vapor deposition (CVD) has been proven to be a promising method for large-scale synthesis of high-quality and uniform 2D crystals. This article discusses the potential of using CVD to improve the growth of graphene, MoS2, and phosphorene.
