Novel neurolisteriosis therapy using SPION as a drivable nanocarrier in gallic acid delivery to CNS

Mehrdad Azarmi et al.

Summary: This study developed an in vivo model of neurolisteriosis by orally administering bacteria to rats and investigated the capability of magnetite nanoparticles (MNPs) in delivering gallic acid (GA) through the blood-brain barrier (BBB). The results showed that MNPs could traverse the BBB, as indicated by the detection of blue spots in brain tissue sections and an increased iron content. The use of MNPs as a drug delivery system significantly reduced the number of listeria bacteria in the rats. Therefore, MNPs have promising potential for drug delivery to the central nervous system (CNS).

Nanoparticle drug delivery systems and their applications as targeted therapies for triple negative breast cancer

Xiangyi Kong et al.

Summary: The therapeutic effect of highly malignant triple negative breast cancer (TNBC) is negatively affected by resistant clone formation and severe toxicity. Nano delivery system effectively suppresses and kills tumor cells by targeted delivery of chemotherapeutic drugs, gene fragments, and immune enhancing factors. Combined with photothermal ablation therapy, it achieves synergism, toxicity reduction, gene inhibition, and immune system activation. These nanoparticle delivery systems revolutionize drug design and usage, reducing adverse effects of toxic chemodrugs.

12 T high static magnetic field suppresses osteosarcoma cells proliferation by regulating intracellular ROS and iron status

Shenghang Wang et al.

Summary: This study demonstrated that exposure to 12 T high static magnetic field can suppress osteosarcoma cell proliferation by inducing cell cycle arrest in S and G2/M phases, while also increasing intracellular ROS levels. Intracellular total and free iron levels are affected, and iron chelator can reduce the cytotoxicity of 12 T HiSMF on osteosarcoma cells.

Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles for magnetic hyperthermia: recent advancements, molecular effects, and future directions in the omics era

Carlotta Pucci et al.

Summary: Superparamagnetic iron oxide nanoparticles (SPIONs) are attracting attention in the biomedical field due to their ability to induce hyperthermia in response to an alternating magnetic field. However, there is still limited understanding of the molecular effects and cell death mechanisms activated by magnetic hyperthermia. Improving this knowledge could enhance therapeutic outcomes and facilitate clinical translation. Additionally, efforts have been made to find effective delivery strategies to improve the biodistribution and localization of SPIONs at the target site. This review provides an overview of magnetic hyperthermia, focusing on SPIONs and their interaction with magnetic fields, delivery strategies, and recent studies on cell death pathways. It also discusses the current clinical status and the contribution of omics in understanding the molecular interactions between SPIONs and the biological environment.

Global cancer statistics 2020: GLOBOCAN estimates of incidence and mortality worldwide for 36 cancers in 185 countries

Hyuna Sung et al.

Summary: The global cancer burden in 2020 saw an estimated 19.3 million new cancer cases and almost 10.0 million cancer deaths. Female breast cancer surpassed lung cancer as the most commonly diagnosed cancer, while lung cancer remained the leading cause of cancer death. These trends are expected to rise in 2040, with transitioning countries experiencing a larger increase compared to transitioned countries due to demographic changes and risk factors associated with globalization and a growing economy. Efforts to improve cancer prevention measures and provision of cancer care in transitioning countries will be crucial for global cancer control.
