Monolith/Hydrogel composites as triamcinolone acetonide carriers for curing corneal neovascularization in mice by inhibiting the fibrinolytic system

Cixin Huang et al.

Summary: This study developed a monolith/hydrogel composite as a carrier for triamcinolone acetonide (TA) to treat corneal neovascularization. The as-prepared composites showed a decreased swelling ratio and an improved loading capacity compared to gelatin hydrogel. The composite demonstrated sustained release of TA for up to 28 days, effectively inhibiting corneal neovascularization. Proteomics analysis identified differentially expressed proteins and revealed the involvement of the fibrinolytic system in the inhibition process. These findings highlight the potential of monolith/hydrogel composites as delivery systems for biomedical diseases.
