Bifurcations and chaos control in a discrete-time prey-predator model with Holling type-II functional response and prey refuge

Anuraj Singh et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the complex dynamical behavior in a discrete prey-predator model with Holling type II functional response and prey refuge. By utilizing the center manifold theorem and bifurcation theory, different types of bifurcations including flip bifurcation, transcritical bifurcation, and Neimark-Sacker bifurcation (NSB) are observed in the system. Moreover, the chaos occurring in the system is controlled by deploying various control strategies such as state feedback, pole placement, and hybrid control techniques. Certain conditions are determined for stabilizing chaos and bifurcation, which are validated through extensive numerical simulations.

Complex dynamics of Kopel model with nonsymmetric response between oligopolists

Bo Li et al.

Summary: This paper discusses the complex dynamics of the Kopel model with nonsymmetric response. The research shows that the fixed point of the nonsymmetric model may undergo various bifurcations under specific parameter combinations. The research also reveals that the effects from rivals can lead to more complex dynamics compared to self-adjustment.

Fractional order modelling of omicron SARS-CoV-2 variant containing heart attack effect using real data from the United Kingdom

Fatma Ozkose et al.

Summary: This study presents a new approach to studying the COVID-19 pandemic and analyzes the relationship between the Omicron variant and heart attacks. By using a fractional order pandemic model and real data, important results such as the basic reproduction number and parameter estimation are obtained. Numerical simulations show that the risk of heart attacks will decrease as the cases of Omicron decrease.

Codimension-Two Bifurcations and Bifurcation Controls in a Discrete Biological System with Weak Allee Effect

Limin Zhang et al.

Summary: In this paper, the codimension-two bifurcations and bifurcation controls of a discrete predatory system with weak Allee effect on prey are investigated. The existence of 1:2 and 1:3 strong resonances at the unique interior fixed point is explored. The hybrid control strategy is extended to control these strong resonances.

Dynamics and bifurcations of a discrete-time Lotka-Volterra model using nonstandard finite difference discretization method

Zohreh Eskandari et al.

Summary: A newly disclosed nonstandard finite difference method was used to discretize a prey-predator model, and the critical normal form coefficients of bifurcations for both one-parameter and two-parameter bifurcations were investigated. The model exhibited various local bifurcations such as period-doubling, Neimark-Sacker, and strong resonances. The analysis of critical normal form coefficients revealed the dynamical scenarios corresponding to each bifurcation point. Numerical simulations using Matlab package validated the theoretical analysis and provided ecological insights.

Complex dynamics of a discrete-time Bazykin-Berezovskaya prey-predator model with a strong Allee effect

Parvaiz Ahmad Naik et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the critical normal form coefficients for the one-parameter and two-parameter bifurcations of a discrete-time Bazykin-Berezovskaya prey-predator model. The complex dynamics of the model are studied theoretically and numerically using MatcotM, and graphical representations are presented to verify the results. The study reveals multiple bifurcations including period-doubling, Neimark-Sacker, and strong resonance bifurcations.

The stability of a dynamic duopoly Cournot-Bertrand game model

Yu Yu

Summary: This paper explores the complex dynamics of a Cournot-Bertrand model and builds a nonlinear discrete system to illustrate the game model. The study reveals that chaos occurs when the adjustment speed of one firm increases. The simulation results show the existence of cycle attractors, chaotic attractors, and the basin of attraction with holes.

Codimension-One and -Two Bifurcations of a Three-Dimensional Discrete Game Model

Zohreh Eskandari et al.

Summary: This paper presents bifurcation analysis of a three-dimensional discrete game model and its iterations, investigating codimension-one and codimension-two bifurcations under variation of one and two parameters. Normal form coefficients are calculated for each bifurcation by reducing the system to the associated center manifold. The detected bifurcations include various types such as transcritical, fold, flip, Neimark-Sacker, resonance, and fold-flip, with numerical continuation method used to depict bifurcation diagrams and reveal the dynamics of the model.

Multiple and generic bifurcation analysis of a discrete Hindmarsh-Rose model

Bo Li et al.

Summary: In this article, multiple and generic bifurcations of planar discrete-time Hindmarsh-Rose oscillator are investigated in detail using bifurcation theory and numerical continuation techniques. Three kinds of one-parameter bifurcation and five kinds of two-parameter bifurcation are studied, with different critical cases of each bifurcation computed and their possible transitions explored. Particularly, the bifurcations of higher iterations and the bifurcation distributions of two-parameter bifurcation point are observed.

Bifurcation and chaos analysis for a discrete ecological developmental systems

Xiao-Wei Jiang et al.

Summary: This work focuses on the dynamic analysis of a discrete ecological developmental system, specifically a prey-predator-scavenger (PPS) system. The study determines that the system can exhibit flip bifurcation and Neimark-Sacker bifurcation by choosing the step size as a bifurcation parameter. Numerical simulations confirm the theoretical results and show that discrete systems exhibit more interesting behaviors, including chaotic sets and a cascade of period-doubling bifurcation in orbits of periods 2, 4, 8, 16.

Behavioral and Experimental Macroeconomics and Policy Analysis: A Complex Systems Approach

Cars Hommes

Summary: This survey focuses on behavioral and experimental macroeconomics, with a complex systems perspective. It finds that under positive expectations feedback, coordination failures are common. Heterogeneous expectations and heuristics switching models match observed micro and macro behavior well. Policy can help manage the self-organization process of a complex economic system.

Foundations of complexity economics

W. Brian Arthur

Summary: Complexity economics challenges the assumptions of neoclassical economics by proposing an economic system where agents are diverse, have limited information, and constantly adapt to create non-equilibrium outcomes. This perspective offers a new angle for economic research by moving away from the idea of perfectly rational agents in equilibrium.
