Seismic Behavior of Repaired and Externally FRP-Jacketed Short Columns Built with Extremely Low-Strength Concrete

Idris Bedirhanoglu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the seismic response of FRP-retrofitted low-strength RC short columns and analyzes the effects of extremely low-strength concrete and different levels of predamage on the behavior of FRP-retrofitted substandard short columns. The research includes experimental and analytical phases, with test results providing important knowledge about the seismic behavior and repair options for such columns. The performance of relevant design documents in predicting the shear strength of FRP-retrofitted columns was also tested through comparison with experimental results.

Innovative and Eco-friendly Solutions for the Seismic Retrofitting of Natural Stone Masonry Walls with Textile Reinforced Mortar: In- and Out-of-Plane Behavior

P. D. Gkournelos et al.

Summary: The study showed that the application of textile-reinforced mortars on masonry walls constructed with natural stones can significantly increase load-bearing capacity and improve stiffness and energy dissipation characteristics. The use of low-carbon footprint materials aligns with modern requirements for environmental friendliness, but durability and feasibility issues still need to be addressed.

Experimental Investigation of the TRM-to-Masonry Bond after Exposure to Elevated Temperatures: Cementitious and Alkali-Activated Matrices of Various Densities

Paraskevi D. Askouni et al.

Summary: Limited research has been done on the effect of high temperatures on the bond between textile-reinforced mortar (TRM) and masonry. In this study, masonry prisms with double-layered TRM strips were exposed to 200°C and 400°C for 1 hour and then tested under shear bond conditions. The results showed that exposure to elevated temperatures did not change the failure mode of the specimens. The residual bond capacity of the TRM systems decreased linearly with increasing temperature. The alkali-activated TRM systems performed better in terms of bond strength compared to cement-based systems. All systems retained approximately 50% of their original bond strength after heating at 400°C. Lightweight matrices provided comparable or better heat protection at the TRM/masonry interface depending on the type of binder.

Flexural behavior of concrete slabs strengthened with textile reinforced geopolymer mortar

Hai Yan Zhang et al.

Summary: This paper presents experimental and numerical studies on the flexural behavior of RC one-way slabs strengthened with TRGM. The results show that TRGM can delay crack development and enhance flexural capacity of slabs, and increasing number of strengthening layers and decreasing spacing can increase the flexural capacity.
