Diffusioosmosis-driven dispersion of colloids: a Taylor dispersion analysis with experimental validation

Benjamin M. Alessio et al.

Summary: Diffusiophoresis allows directed motion of colloidal particles in inaccessible geometries. This study investigates the dispersion of colloidal particles in a dead-end pore and develops an effective one-dimensional equation that predicts the dispersion. The model is validated through numerical simulations and experimental comparisons.

Enhanced Accumulation of Colloidal Particles in Microgrooved Channels via Diffusiophoresis and Steady-State Electrolyte Flows

Naval Singh et al.

Summary: The study investigates the effects of salt contrast and groove depth on the accumulation process of colloidal particles in microgrooves, and determines the experimental conditions that lead to high particle concentration peaks. The sufficient and necessary conditions for particle accumulation are derived. The controlled and enhanced accumulation of colloidal particles in dead-end structures by solute concentration gradients has potential applications in soft matter and living systems.

Stratification in drying films: a diffusion-diffusiophoresis model

Clare R. Rees-Zimmerman et al.

Summary: This research is motivated by the desire to control the solids distribution during the drying of a film containing particles of two different sizes. A colloidal hydrodynamics model is formulated and solved to determine the relative importance of diffusion and excluded volume diffusiophoresis in affecting the particle arrangement. Numerical results show that the addition of excluded volume diffusiophoresis can lead to small-on-top stratification, offering a potential explanation for experimental observations.
