Hybrid nanoarchitectonics of carbon/titanium carbide integrated hydrogel/melamine foam for highly efficient solar steam and thermoelectric power generation

Liangri Ying et al.

Summary: In this paper, carbon/titanium carbide (C/TiC) nanohybrids from Ti-based metal-organic framework (Ti-MOF) were synthesized for efficient solar steam and thermoelectric power generation. The synthesized porous C/TiC nanohybrids exhibited high efficiency in solar-steam conversion and achieved a high evaporation rate under one sun irradiation due to their excellent light absorption performance and thermal management ability. The multi-structured hydrogel, TMH, prepared using these nanohybrids showed desirable self-cleaning characteristic and met the performance requirements for brine desalination. Additionally, the synergistic system of solar steam and thermoelectric power generation demonstrated a high evaporation rate and stable voltage under one sun irradiation, offering a promising avenue for practical desalination and thermoelectric power generation.

Melamine/Silicone Hybrid Sponges with Controllable Microstructure and Wettability for Efficient Solar-Driven Interfacial Desalination

Lingxiao Li et al.

Summary: Solar-driven interfacial evaporation (SIE) is a promising desalination technique to address fresh water shortage crisis, but faces challenges such as evaporation rate decline and salt-fouling. A study successfully prepares melamine/silicone (MS) hybrid sponges with controllable microstructure and wettability, combined with carbon nanotubes (CNTs), for efficient SIE. The resulting CNTs@MS solar evaporators show stable evaporation rate and prevent salt precipitation during long-term cyclic solar desalination, making them highly promising for practical SIE applications.

Spontaneous Salt-Preventing Solar-Thermal Water Evaporator with a High Evaporation Efficiency through Dual-Mode Water Transfer

Peng Yuan et al.

Summary: Benefiting from solar energy and photothermal conversion equipment, solar-driven water evaporation has great potential in seawater desalination. However, the crystallization of salt on the surface of solar absorbers during seawater evaporation can significantly decrease the continuity and efficiency of the process. In this study, a salt-preventing solar-thermal water evaporator was designed using a dual-mode water transfer structure, which effectively suppressed salt concentration and exhibited high efficiency in inhibiting salt crystallization.

A Three-Dimensional Melamine Sponge Modified with MnOx Mixed Graphitic Carbon Nitride for Photothermal Catalysis of Formaldehyde

Rongyang Yin et al.

Summary: This study synthesized sponge-based catalysts with three-dimensional porosity and demonstrated their excellent photothermal catalytic performance for formaldehyde oxidation under visible light irradiation. The sponge's porous framework provided a good surface for material modification and a reliable interface for gas-solid interaction, while the polydopamine layer coated on the sponge increased the catalyst's absorption of light and adhesion of MnOX and GCN. The efficient formaldehyde oxidation was attributed to the sufficient oxygen vacancies generated by co-loaded MnOX and GCN, which facilitated the activation of more O2- in the oxidation process. The study confirmed the reaction mechanism as a classical Mars-van Krevelen mechanism based on the photo-induced thermal catalysis process.
