Summary: Internal coherence in research is essential for ensuring alignment between different aspects of study design, such as ontology, epistemology, methodology, and methods. This study focused on nutrition and dietetics research, highlighting the importance of internal coherence beyond individual elements of study quality. It found that while there were elements of alignment between epistemology and methodology in the selected studies, there were also instances of misalignment between epistemology, axiology, and method.
