Uniaxial tensile properties of multi-scale fiber reinforced rubberized concrete after exposure to elevated temperatures

Yao Zhang et al.

Summary: With the rapid development of transportation and population growth, there is a surge hike in demand for automobile tires. Waste rubber disposal has become a big environmental concern worldwide due to the non-biodegradability of waste rubber. This study investigated the influences of waste crumb rubber and multi-scale fibers on the mechanical behavior and fire resistance of rubberized concrete at elevated temperatures. Results show that adding crumb rubber alone does not improve the brittleness of concrete, but incorporating multi-scale fibers can improve the tensile behavior and fire resistance of rubberized concrete.

Summary: This paper presents an alternative approach to evaluating the performance of recycled aggregate concrete columns using FRP jacketing. The XGBoost method and beetle antennae search metaheuristic algorithm are used to optimize the model, and a synthetic data generator is introduced to supplement the training data. The developed model outperforms existing models and improves the understanding of the axial stress-strain behavior of FRP-confined concrete.

Shear behavior of polypropylene fiber-reinforced concrete beams containing recycled aggregate and crumb rubber

F. M. Zahid Hossain et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the shear behavior of concrete beams containing crumb rubber (CR), recycled concrete aggregate (RCA), and polypropylene (PP) fiber. The experimental results show that the introduction of CR negatively affects the shear strength, crack resistance, toughness, and deformability of the concrete, but the addition of a small percentage of PP fiber can improve these properties. The combination of 30% RCA, 5% CR, and 1% PP fiber demonstrates the best performance in terms of shear resistance, deformability, and toughness.

Strength criterion of recycled aggregate concrete under triaxial Compression: Model calibration

Benben Li et al.

Summary: The utilization of recycled aggregate concrete (RAC) is important for the development of green building materials as it allows for the full utilization of waste concrete. However, there is currently a limited understanding of the failure surface of RAC under different compression conditions. This study proposes equations for the compressive meridian and tensile meridian of RAC in octahedral stress space, taking into account the influence of high temperatures. Experimental validation of these equations for both room temperature and high temperatures was conducted.
