Constructing an acidic microenvironment by sulfonated polymers for photocatalytic reduction of hexavalent chromium under neutral conditions

Summary: Hexavalent chromium (VI) heavy metal contamination poses a serious threat to human health and the environment. A microenvironment strategy involving the introduction of sulfonic acid onto the aromatic conjugated skeleton has been designed to achieve efficient reduction of Cr(VI) under neutral conditions. The sulfonated aromatic ring conjugated polymer (Arcp-SO3H) shows high efficiency and stability in removing Cr(VI), offering new possibilities for wastewater treatment and environmental remediation.

Cost-effective microreactors for the synthesis of SnS nanoparticles and inline photocatalytic degradation of azo dyes

Summary: A simple wire-assisted cost-effective technique along with a laser assisted rapid microfabrication technique was used to synthesize SnS nanoparticles in microfluidic reactors and study their photocatalytic response. The synthesized SnS nanoparticles had an average size of 17 nm and an optical band gap of 1.25 eV. A less expensive PMMA-based microreactor coated with SnS nanoparticles was employed for the photocatalytic degradation of EBT dye, achieving -75% instantaneous degradation at a catalyst loading of 30 mg and a flow rate of 50 μL/min.

Continuous flow synthesis of disordered covalent organic framework for ultra-high removal of industrial pollutants in flow

Transition metal phosphides have shown advantages as co-catalysts, and bimetallic phosphides have attracted attention due to their lower overpotential, superior conductivity, and better charge carriers transfer impedance. This minireview summarizes the latest developments of bimetallic phosphides in photocatalytic reactions, including loading methods, efficiency in H-2 evolution, and application under dye sensitization effect.

Photoreforming of plastic waste poly (ethylene terephthalate) via in-situ derived CN-CNTs-NiMo hybrids

Summary: Photoreforming of plastic waste is achieved by using in-situ derived carbon nitride-carbon nanotubes-NiMo hybrids as efficient and stable photocatalysts. The strong pi-pi interaction between in-situ derived CNTs and CN promotes electron transfer, increasing carrier lifetime and enhancing photocatalytic activity. The strong interaction between the photocatalyst and ethylene glycol in plastics is observed, providing evidence of charge transfer and guiding the rational design of highly efficient photocatalysts for plastics photoreforming.

Synergies of Adjacent Sites in Atomically Dispersed Ruthenium toward Achieving Stable Hydrogen Evolution

Summary: This study successfully implanted atomically dispersed Ru clusters into PCN using an ionic diffusion and coordination strategy, which enhances stability with robust Ru-N bonds and facilitates charge transport between RuN4 and RuN3 structures, leading to decreased hydrogen adsorption energy. The optimized PCN-Ru photocatalyst significantly outperformed the Pt/PCN benchmark, achieving nearly 6 times higher photocatalytic hydrogen evolution rate and maintaining long-term stable operation.

Rapid chromium reduction by metal-free organic polymer photocatalysis via molecular engineering

Revealing the unexplored effect of residual iron oxide on the photoreforming activities of polypyrrole nanostructures on plastic waste and photocatalytic pollutant degradation

Summary: In this study, a nanostructured conducting conjugated polymer, polypyrrole, was synthesized using a template free approach. Residual alpha-Fe2O3 was found in the polypyrrole matrix, acting as nanoparticles and forming a heterojunction nanocomposite. This nanocomposite significantly enhanced the photocatalytic activity of the polymer under visible light, surpassing both metal free polypyrrole and alpha-Fe2O3. The nanocomposite demonstrated high photocatalytic activity in the photoreforming of plastic to hydrogen and other value-added organic products, and it did not generate any greenhouse gases like CO2.
