Determination of variability of terpenes and terpenoids in Cannabis sativa by gas chromatography-flame ionization detection and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry

Sol Giovannoni et al.

Summary: The absolute content of terpenes in the inflorescences of two Cannabis sativa L. strains, CAT 1 and CAT 3, was determined using solid phase microextraction combined with gas chromatography and flame ionization detection. A total of twenty terpenes were identified, with high amounts found in both strains, including beta-myrcene, alpha-pinene, beta-pinene, limonene, (E)-beta-ocimene, beta-caryophyllene, alpha-humulene, (E)-nerolidol, and linalool. Lower concentrations of other terpenes were also detected. The identities of the volatile compounds were confirmed using gas chromatography coupled to mass spectrometer detector. Variability in terpene concentrations among the plants of each strain grown under controlled conditions was evaluated, showing a variability of about 20% for terpenes above 20 μg/g. Ion-Specific Antipolyelectrolyte Effect on the Swelling Behavior of Polyzwitterionic Layers

Frederik Hegaard et al.

Summary: In this study, the interactions between mobile ions and immobile charges within a sulfobetaine-based polyzwitterionic film were systematically investigated. The swelling behavior of the film in the presence of different salts was compared, and it was found that specific types of anions significantly influenced the swelling of the polycationic films. Furthermore, it was observed that the degree of swelling of the zwitterionic films depended on the anion type and increased with increasing ionic strength.

Selective isolation of pesticides and cannabinoids using polymeric ionic liquid-based sorbent coatings in solid-phase microextraction coupled to high-performance liquid chromatography

Victoria R. Zeger et al.

Summary: The high abundance of cannabinoids in cannabis samples poses challenges for pesticide testing. We have developed a new approach using a special sorbent coating for solid-phase microextraction to isolate and detect commonly regulated pesticides and cannabinoids. This method demonstrates high selectivity and sensitivity, and shows great feasibility for cannabis quality control testing.

Specific Counterion Effects on the Swelling Behavior of Strong Polyelectrolyte Brushes

Koosha Ehtiati et al.

Summary: This study investigates the influence of specific counterions on the swelling mechanisms of polyelectrolyte brushes. The results show that the polarizability of counterions affects brush swelling, while the hydration enthalpy of ions also plays a role. The interplay of these mechanisms depends on the brush grafting density and ionic strength.

Porous material-based sorbent coatings in solid-phase microextraction technique: Recent trends and future perspectives

Karolina Delinska et al.

Summary: The use of porous materials as sorbents in sample preparation techniques, particularly in the development of novel fibers for Solid-phase microextraction (SPME), has recently attracted scientific attention. The selection of a robust sorbent is crucial for successful utilization of SPME under variable conditions. Understanding the nature of newly developed porous SPME coatings and the impact of their structures on analytical parameters is essential for their successful use as potential sorption media for specific purposes.
