Nonadiabatic Forward Flux Sampling for Excited-State Rare Events

Madlen Maria Reiner et al.

Summary: We propose a rare event sampling scheme, the Nonadiabatic Forward Flux Sampling (NAFFS), which combines the trajectory surface hopping (TSH) method with the forward flux sampling (FFS) method. NAFFS is applied to two relevant excited-state models and provides insights into transition rate constants in regimes that cannot be explored through traditional TSH simulations. The comparison with brute-force TSH simulations shows that NAFFS is significantly more efficient, making it a valuable tool for studying rare nonadiabatic events in excited-state dynamics.

INAQS, a Generic Interface for Nonadiabatic QM/MM Dynamics: Design, Implementation, and Validation for GROMACS/Q-CHEM simulations

D. Vale Cofer-Shabica et al.

Summary: Accurately describing large molecular systems in complex environments is a challenging task in computational chemistry. This problem becomes even more challenging for photoinduced processes that involve multiple excited electronic states and their corresponding nonadiabatic couplings. Multiscale approaches such as hybrid quantum mechanics/molecular mechanics (QM/MM) offer a balanced compromise between accuracy and computational burden. In this study, we introduce an open-source software package (INAQS) for nonadiabatic QM/MM simulations that integrates the sampling capabilities of GROMACS MD package and the excited-state infrastructure of Q-CHEM electronic structure software.

Validating fewest-switches surface hopping in the presence of laser fields

Moritz Heindl et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the capability of fewest-switches surface hopping (FSSH) in describing non-adiabatic dynamics under external fields, finding that FSSH is able to reproduce trends in multi-configurational time dependent Hartree (MCTDH) reference calculations but no ideal set of parameters exists. Adequate treatment of overcoherence in FSSH is crucial for improving the description of excitation processes.
