The entropic penalty for associative reactions and their physical treatment during routine computations

Jama Ariai et al.

Summary: This article presents a systematic study on the entropic penalty for associative reactions and identifies that computed solution-phase Gibbs free energies tend to overestimate entropic contributions. An additive correction scheme based on Garza's formalism is proposed to correct the entropic penalty, which is suitable for routine applications by non-expert users.

A transferable recommender approach for selecting the best density functional approximations in chemical discovery

Chenru Duan et al.

Summary: Approximate density functional theory is essential for its balanced cost-accuracy trade-off, but no DFA with universal accuracy has been identified. We develop a DFA recommender using electron density fitting and Delta-learning, which selects the DFA with the lowest expected error based on system-specific evaluation. Our recommender achieves excellent accuracy in predicting top-performing DFAs for chemical discovery, outperforming existing models and approaches.

The hindered rotor theory: A review

Eugenia Dzib et al.

Summary: Hindered rotations can greatly affect thermodynamic properties and accurate predictions require the use of the hindered rotor approximation. Various methods are available to compute thermodynamic properties for molecules with hindered rotations, including algorithms to identify hindered rotors and obtain input parameters, as well as software for computation under this scheme.

Assessing Density Functional Theory for Chemically Relevant Open-Shell Transition Metal Reactions

Leonard R. Maurer et al.

Summary: Density functional approximations perform well in main-group chemistry but lack benchmark data for transition metal chemistry. The ROST61 benchmark set provides accurate reference values for reactions of open-shell single-reference transition metal complexes, improving the understanding in this area and guiding the development of new DFAs and electronic structure methods.
