The hierarchy of Davydov's Ansatze: From guesswork to numerically exact many-body wave functions

Yang Zhao

Summary: This Perspective provides an overview of the development and applications of Davydov's Ansatze in computational chemical physics. The solitons proposed by Davydov in the 1970s have been proven to be accurate variational ground-state wave functions for the Holstein molecular crystal model. Multiple Davydov Ansatze have been proposed as improvements of their single-Ansatz parents. The time-dependent variational formalism is used to extract accurate dynamic and spectroscopic properties using Davydov's Ansatze as trial states.

Dynamics of photosynthetic light harvesting systems interacting with N-photon Fock states

Liwen Ko et al.

Summary: We develop a method to simulate the dynamics of light harvesting systems, considering non-Markovian coupling and multi-photon excitation. We find that under weak field excitation, coherent state input and Fock state input lead to equal density matrices in the excited manifold, but only coherent state input creates off-diagonal coherence. We also analyze the absorption probability and derive expressions for short and long pulses, as well as study the difference between collective vs independent emission.

Effect of mixed Frenkel and charge transfer states in time-gated fluorescence spectra of perylene bisimides H-aggregates: Hierarchical equations of motion approach

Mauro Cainelli et al.

Summary: In this theoretical study, we investigated the effect of mixed Frenkel and charge transfer states on the spectral properties of perylene bisimide derivatives, focusing on the role of strong electron-phonon interactions. The results show that the inclusion of charge transfer states promotes the localization of excitons, leading to a decrease in the intensity of the hot state peak and the 0-1 peak and an increase in the intensity of the 0-0 emission peak, resulting in a decrease in the coherence length of excitons.

Efficient quantum dynamics simulations of complex molecular systems: A unified treatment of dynamic and static disorder

Maxim F. Gelin et al.

Summary: A unified and highly numerically efficient formalism is presented for simulating quantum dynamics of complex molecular systems, considering both temperature effects and static disorder. This methodology, based on thermo-field dynamics formalism and auxiliary bosonic operators, studies the effects of dynamic and static disorders on charge-transfer processes in model organic semiconductor chains.

Expanding the Range of Hierarchical Equations of Motion by Tensor-Train Implementation

Raffaele Borrelli et al.

Summary: This study discusses the non-equilibrium thermo-field dynamics formulation of the hierarchical equations of motion combined with the tensor-train representation of the density matrix, introducing a new numerical integration scheme. The method is based on an adaptive low-rank Galerkin reduction scheme and can preserve linear invariants, showing promise for studying the quantum dynamics of complex molecular systems in the condensed phase.

Finite temperature quantum dynamics of complex systems: Integrating thermo-field theories and tensor-train methods

Raffaele Borrelli et al.

Summary: This review presents the theoretical framework for studying the time-evolution of chemico-physical systems at finite temperature using the non-equilibrium thermo-field dynamics representation of quantum mechanics. The methodology integrates TFD concepts with tensor-train numerical tools, providing a novel and powerful framework for analyzing complex quantum dynamical problems. By demonstrating the computational advantages of this approach, the study applies the developed methodologies to various molecular systems, showcasing the ability to scrutinize dynamics in multidimensional electron-vibrational systems.

Steady-state Fano coherences in a V-type system driven by polarized incoherent light

Suyesh Koyu et al.

Summary: This study investigates the properties of steady-state noise-induced coherences in a three-level V-system pumped by incoherent light, revealing the impact of such coherences on excited-state dynamics and a regime where the coherence-to-population ratio reaches a maximum under certain conditions. The enhancement of Fano coherences due to dephasing is attributed to the suppression of destructive interference by the environment. Additionally, a direct connection between incoherent driving of quantum systems and quantum transport in qubit networks is identified, with potential implications for quantum thermodynamics and biological processes.
