Pulsed Field Ablation for the Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation: PULSED AF Pivotal Trial

Atul E. Verma et al.

Summary: Pulsed field ablation is an effective and safe method for treating patients with atrial fibrillation. It has comparable effectiveness to traditional catheter ablation but with a lower rate of complications.

Safe and effective delivery of high-power, short-duration radiofrequency ablation lesions with a flexible-tip ablation catheter

Leon M. Ptaszek et al.

Summary: In this study, the safety and efficacy of high-power, short-duration (HPSD) radiofrequency ablation (RFA) were compared with low-power, long-duration (LPLD) RFA in pulmonary vein isolation (PVI). The results showed that the investigational ablation catheter used in HPSD RFA achieved faster ablation time compared to LPLD RFA, and both types of ablation effectively isolated the pulmonary veins.

Multi-national survey on the methods, efficacy, and safety on the post-approval clinical use of pulsed field ablation (MANIFEST-PF)

Emmanuel Ekanem et al.

Summary: This study investigated the real-world performance of the approved PFA catheter in a large cohort of unselected patients and found that PFA was effective for treating atrial fibrillation with a safety profile consistent with preferential tissue ablation. However, the occurrence of generic catheter complications highlights the need for continuous improvement in efficacy and safety.

Cerebral safety after pulsed field ablation for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation

Nico Reinsch et al.

Summary: Pulsed field ablation (PFA) is a safe and effective treatment modality for paroxysmal atrial fibrillation (AF) patients, with a low incidence of asymptomatic thromboembolic cerebral events or lesions. In this study, PFA did not result in any neurological deficits and the majority of patients had normal cerebral MRI scans. The occurrence of a small cerebellar lesion in one patient was transient and resolved during follow-up.

Cryoballoon Ablation as Initial Therapy for Atrial Fibrillation

Oussama M. Wazni et al.

Summary: In this multicenter trial, cryoballoon ablation as initial therapy was found to be superior to drug therapy in preventing atrial arrhythmia recurrence in patients with paroxysmal atrial fibrillation. Serious procedure-related adverse events were uncommon.

Cryoablation or Drug Therapy for Initial Treatment of Atrial Fibrillation

Jason G. Andrade et al.

Summary: In patients with symptomatic, paroxysmal atrial fibrillation, catheter cryoballoon ablation was associated with a significantly lower rate of atrial fibrillation recurrence compared to antiarrhythmic drug therapy. The ablation group also had better outcomes in terms of atrial tachyarrhythmia occurrence and atrial fibrillation burden.
