Prognostic nomogram models for predicting survival probability in elderly glioblastoma patients

Summary: A retrospective case-by-case analysis was conducted to assess the impact of individual surgeon experience on overall survival (OS), extent of resection (EOR), and surgery-related morbidity in elderly patients with glioblastoma (GBM). The study found that less experienced neurosurgeons achieve similar surgical results and outcomes as experienced neurosurgeons in academic teaching hospitals. Adjuvant treatment and avoiding surgery-related morbidity are crucial for improving treatment outcomes in this patient population.

Summary: This study summarizes the RCTs evidence for treatment strategies in elderly patients with glioblastoma and identifies research gaps. Results show that there is substantial evidence for the effectiveness of chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and chemo-radiotherapy, but limited evidence for targeted therapy, immunotherapy, and tumor treating fields therapy. Fewer studies have focused on recurrent patients, particularly in terms of immunotherapy and targeted therapy.
