Young women aged 15 to 45 who undergo total hip replacements have a higher risk of revision compared to those over 75 years old. 12% to 17% of women of childbearing age who have had a total hip replacement will later experience at least 1 pregnancy. Young women who have a total hip replacement do not have an increased risk of pregnancy complications. Among women who experienced pain with a total hip replacement during pregnancy, 60% still felt pain after delivery, with 21% experiencing persistent pain and 4% reporting severe pain. Limited studies suggest that women who have a total hip replacement and subsequently experience pregnancy and childbirth do not have an increased risk of pregnancy complications or revision rates.
