Stress-induced Solid-Solid Crystal Transition in Trans-1,4-polyisoprene

Chun-Bo Zhang et al.

Summary: The polymorphic transition of trans-1,4-polyisoprene (TPI) during stretching was investigated. The study found that an alpha-beta transition occurs during the stretching of TPI, which is irreversible. Stretching of TPI with only beta crystal did not result in a beta-alpha transition. The transition is significantly influenced by temperature and strain rate, suggesting the involvement of both thermodynamics and kinetics.

Hydrogen bonds dominated frictional stick-slip of cellulose nanocrystals

Chi Zhang et al.

Summary: Through atomistic simulation, the mechanical behavior of cellulose-cellulose nanocrystal hydrophilic interface was studied, showing the central role of interfacial hydrogen bonds in explaining various findings. The friction force generated by a single hydrogen bond was estimated to be around 1.3 E-10 N under a shearing speed of 1 m/s.

Polymer Network Structure, Properties, and Formation of Liquid Crystalline Elastomers Prepared via Thiol-Acrylate Chain Transfer Reactions

Tayler S. Hebner et al.

Summary: Liquid crystalline elastomers (LCEs) are functional materials whose stimuli response is influenced by the composition and structure of the polymer network. LCEs are commonly fabricated by copolymerizing acrylate monomers with thiols. The study indicates that polymerization in a liquid crystalline phase hinders the mobility of reactive species, and residual thiol in the LCE polymer network can be postfunctionalized.

Tensile deformation mechanism of propylene-1-butene random copolymer: The role of initial crystalline morphology

Chengao Qian et al.

Summary: The structural evolution of two propylene 1-butene random copolymer (iPPBu) films with different initial crystalline morphology during uniaxial deformation was investigated. The initial morphology was found to influence the structural evolution of the samples, impacting cavitation, molecular chain orientation behavior, mesophase occurrence, and crystallinity reduction. The presence of nodular morphology in iPPBu led to differences in cavitation and crystallinity compared to samples with spherulitic morphology.

Polymer Networks Synthesized from Poly(Sorbitol Adipate) and Functionalized Poly(Ethylene Glycol)

Haroon Rashid et al.

Summary: Polymer networks were prepared using PSA and PSA-g-mPEG(12) copolymer through esterification and cross-linking reactions. Characterization of the networks was done using NMR, GPC, and DSC, revealing a two-component structure with different dipolar coupling constants. Solvent diffusion in the networks depended on the degree of swelling imparted by the PEG cross-linking agent.
