Ballistic resistance of high-strength armor steel against ogive-nosed projectile impact

Y. H. Cheng et al.

Summary: This study evaluates the ballistic resistance of two types of advanced high-strength armor steels through projectile perforation tests and numerical simulations. It suggests using the classical finite element method to reproduce the failure mode of the target and the mesh-free Smoothed Particle Galerkin method to quickly predict the residual velocity of the projectile.

Experimental and numerical study on the influence of shaped charge liner cavity filing on jet penetration characteristics in steel targets

Pawel Zochowski et al.

Summary: The article analyzes the penetration characteristics of shaped charge jets formed after detonations of modified PG-7VM warheads in high hardness ARMSTAL 30PM steel. The study shows that by using different materials of fillings and different heights, it is possible to control the shape of the penetration craters formed in the steel targets.

Study on jet formation behavior and optimization of trunconical hypercumulation shaped charge structure

Chao Ge et al.

Summary: Combining the methods of theoretical, numerical and experimental, this research focuses on the jet formation behavior and optimization of trunconical hypercumulation shaped charge structure. The study establishes the formation theory of trunconical hypercumulation shaped charge jet based on micro element method, analyzes the main control parameters through dimensional analysis, and obtains the influence of factors and their levels on jet formation through numerical modelling and orthogonal optimization method. The penetration experiments reveal the advantage of trunconical hypercumulation shaped charge over traditional conical shaped charge structure and determine the optimal influence factor level combination. The research and results would provide useful guide for the design and application of trunconical hypercumulation shaped charge structure.

Application of a new type of annular shaped charge in penetration into underwater double-hull structure

Zhifan Zhang et al.

Summary: A new type of annular shaped charge was found to cause more severe damage to underwater double hull structures compared to traditional explosive formed projectiles. The annular projectiles resulted in larger crevasses and deflections, as well as greater plastic deformation, indicating their potential for improved penetration performance into underwater structures.

Penetration and internal blast behavior of reactive liner enhanced shaped charge against concrete space

Hao Zhang et al.

Summary: The penetration and internal blast behavior of reactive liner enhanced shaped charge against concrete space were investigated through experiments and simulations. The results showed that the novel shaped charge achieved larger penetration cavity diameter and spalling area compared to the traditional shaped charge, and the reactive material produced significant blast effect and overpressure inside the concrete space.

Experimental and Numerical Study on the Penetration Performance of a Shaped Charge

Yanan Du et al.

Summary: The penetration performance of shaped energy jets was studied through numerical simulation and experimental verification. It was found that the shaped energy jet warhead can penetrate a Q235 steel plate to a maximum depth of about 80 mm after penetrating the control cabin.

Prediction of superior target layer configuration of armour steel, mild steel and aluminium 7075-T651 alloy against 7.62 AP projectile

K. Senthil et al.

Summary: This study investigated the ballistic performance of triple-layered mild steel, Armox 500T steel and 7075-T651 Aluminum target plates against 7.62 AP projectiles, identifying the best target configuration as the upper layer of low ductility - high strength material, middle layer of high ductility - low strength material and the lower layer of medium strength - medium ductility material. Through simulations, it was found that the projectile perforates the superior layered target at an oblique angle of maximum 35 degrees.

Impact performance of an annular shaped charge designed by convolutional neural networks

Wenlong Xu et al.

Summary: The study proposes a framework combining finite element method and convolutional neural networks for the design optimization of an annular shaped charge. By training CNN with extensive numerical simulation and data collection, a well-trained model is able to accurately predict the optimal parameters. Experimental results indicate that the ASC designed by CNN performs well in penetrating stiffener targets.
