Characterization of the novel optrA-carrying pseudo-compound transposon Tn7363 and an Inc18 plasmid carrying cfr(D) in Vagococcus lutrae

Yao Zhu et al.

Summary: This study investigated the genetic context and transferability of oxazolidinone resistance genes in a porcine Vagococcus lutrae isolate. The researchers found that the isolate carried the cfr(D) and optrA resistance genes, which were located on a novel pseudo-compound transposon and a broad-host-range plasmid, respectively. The study highlighted the potential risk of transfer of these resistance genes from V. lutrae to clinically more important bacterial pathogens.

Excision and integration of unconventional circularizable structures involving the erm(B) gene in enterococci

Xinxin Shan et al.

Summary: Traditionally, insertion sequences (ISs) and unconventional circularizable structures (UCSs) have been shown to play a major role in disseminating antimicrobial resistance genes (ARGs) in bacteria. This study identified a novel UCS on plasmid pE508-2 in E. faecalis E508, and demonstrated the excision and integration of UCS involving structures that include the erm(B) gene. The widespread presence of these UCSs in various Gram-positive bacteria highlights its importance in the dissemination of ARGs among bacterial pathogens.

Mobile Oxazolidinone Resistance Genes in Gram-Positive and Gram-Negative Bacteria

Stefan Schwarz et al.

Summary: Mobile oxazolidinone resistance genes such as cfr, optrA, and poxtA are found on various platforms and may overlap with other resistance genes, contributing to the dissemination of resistance among microbial populations.
