Effects of Dietary Glycine Supplementation on Growth Performance, Immunological, and Erythrocyte Antioxidant Parameters in Common Carp, Cyprinus carpio

Marzieh Abbasi et al.

Summary: The effects of dietary glycine supplementation were investigated in common carp. The 5 GL treatment showed significant improvement in growth performance and feed efficacy. Many hematological parameters, erythrocyte antioxidant capacity, and immune activities were enhanced in the glycine-treated fish. The benefits of dietary glycine supplementation may be mediated by increased glutathione synthesis and antioxidant power.

Use of alternative protein sources for fishmeal replacement in the diet of largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides). Part I: effects of poultry by-product meal and soybean meal on growth, feed utilization, and health

Xinyu Li et al.

Summary: The study found that including 15% fishmeal protein in the diet is sufficient for the growth of largemouth bass, but may impact their intestinal, skin, eye, and liver health. Adjusting the levels of methionine and taurine in the diet, as well as reducing possible antinutritional factors in fishmeal replacements like soybean meal, could help prevent black skin syndrome.

Supplementation of glycine, prebiotic, and nucleotides in soybean mealbased diets for largemouth bass (Micropterus salmoides): Effects on production performance, whole-body nutrient composition and retention, and intestinal histopathology

Waldemar Rossi et al.

Summary: The study showed that supplementing with glycine can improve the growth performance of LMB, especially when dietary fish meal is replaced almost entirely and the level of dietary glycine is reduced by soybean meal. LMB displayed similar gastrointestinal responses to soybean meal-based and fish meal-based diets, indicating tolerance to the former. Further research on the role of supplemental nutrients/additives in optimizing plant-based diets for LMB is recommended.

Dietary Supplementation with Glycine Enhances Intestinal Mucosal Integrity and Ameliorates Inflammation in C57BL/6J Mice with High-Fat Diet-Induced Obesity

Summary: The study found that glycine supplementation can enhance the intestinal barrier and alleviate inflammation and insulin resistance in high-fat diet-induced obese mice. These effects were associated with reduced ER stress-related apoptosis in the intestines of obese mice.
