Enhancement of ferromagnetism and ferroelectricity by oxygen vacancies in mullite Bi2Fe4O9 in the Bi2(Sn0.7Fe0.3)2O7-x matrix

S. S. Aplesnin et al.

Summary: A new bismuth pyrostannate-based composite has been synthesized, showing high magnetic hysteresis and remanent magnetization. The temperature dependence of magnetic properties in the antiferromagnet and the mechanism of remanent polarization have been established. The presence of oxygen vacancies in the bismuth pyrostannate matrix has been found to significantly increase the remanent magnetization.

Infrared phonon spectroscopy on the Cairo pentagonal antiferromagnet Bi2Fe4O9: A study through the pressure-induced structural transition

Summary: Infrared synchrotron-based spectroscopy was used to investigate magnetic and crystallographic transitions in the Cairo pentagonal magnet Bi2Fe4O9 under varying temperature and pressure conditions. An anomalous softening of a phonon mode in the antiferromagnetic phase and a pressure-induced structural transition were observed, suggesting changes in the magnetic superexchange path due to an increase in oxygen coordination of irons.
