A Tunable Structural Family with Ultralow Thermal Conductivity: Copper-Deficient Cu1-x square xPb1-xBi1+xS3

Krishnendu Maji et al.

Summary: In this study, the n-type sulfide CuPbBi5S9 was synthesized with an ultralow thermal conductivity. It was found that the low thermal conductivity is attributed to the low energy optical modes associated with Pb and Bi ions and, to a lesser extent, Cu. Although the semiconductor properties of this sulfide are not ideal, it shows potential as a matrix for designing novel n-type thermoelectric compounds with ultralow thermal conductivity.

Ultralow Lattice Thermal Conductivity in the Aikinite Structure Family, CuXPbXBi2-XS3, and Thermoelectric Properties of Cu0.14Pb0.14Bi1.86S3

Srikanth Balijapelly et al.

Summary: In this article, the synthesis, characterization, and ultralow thermal conductivity of three complex quaternary chalcogenide compounds were reported. These compounds possess complex structures with mixed occupied sites, leading to ultralow thermal conductivities. Spectroscopy and charge transport properties reveal narrow band gaps, low electrical conductivities, and high Seebeck coefficients. One of the compounds exhibits a promising figure of merit at high temperatures.

Summary: This study reports the synthesis and characterization of three quaternary complex chalcogenides with promising thermoelectric properties. The compounds exhibit complex crystal structures and ultra-low lattice thermal conductivities, making them suitable candidates for thermoelectric applications. These materials also show narrow indirect band gaps and n-type semiconducting behavior with moderate electrical conductivities and large Seebeck coefficients.
