The Magnetic Properties and Magnetocaloric Effect of Pr0.7Sr0.3MnO3 Thin Film Grown on SrTiO3 Substrate

Bojun Zhao et al.

Summary: This paper studied the magnetic behaviors and magnetocaloric effect of Pr0.7Sr0.3MnO3 (PSMO-7) film grown on a (001) SrTiO3 single-crystal substrate using pulsed laser deposition. The film showed a single orientation of (001) as observed by high-resolution X-ray diffraction. The temperature dependence of magnetization and magnetic field dependence of magnetization indicated a transition from paramagnetic to ferromagnetic state around the Curie temperature of approximately 193 K. The PSMO-7 film exhibited ferromagnetic properties at low temperatures and paramagnetic properties at higher temperatures. The maximum magnetic entropy change near the Curie temperature was found to be 4.7 J/kg K, indicating potential applications in magnetic refrigeration.

Effects of Bi doping on structural and magnetic properties of cobalt ferrite perovskite oxide LaCo0.5Fe0.5O3

Ariful Haque et al.

Summary: This study focuses on the magnetic transition of LaFe0.5Co0.5O3 and reports the low temperature sol-gel synthesis of pure and Bi-doped La1-xBixFe0.5Co0.5O3 perovskites. The samples were characterized and it was found that Bi doping resulted in structural transition and improved grain growth and crystallinity. Magnetization measurements showed weak ferromagnetic nature of La1-xBixFe0.5Co0.5O3, which could be attributed to the canted anti ferromagnetic structure and the interaction between Fe3+ ions. The increase in magnetic transition and the lower magnetic moment with an increase in Bi content were explained by the weakening of Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction caused by structural modification and lattice distortion associated with Bi3+ ions.

Magnetization reversal, critical behavior, and magnetocaloric effect in NdMnO3: The role of magnetic ordering of Nd and Mn moments

Yan Wang et al.

Summary: The magnetic properties, critical behavior, and magnetocaloric effect of perovskite NdMnO3 are studied. The ordering of Nd induced by the ferromagnetic Mn component with antiferromagnetic coupling leads to magnetization reversal and negative magnetization at low temperatures. The critical behavior of NdMnO3 is analyzed using Kouvel-Fisher and self-consistent methods, and the results show that the Kouvel-Fisher method is reliable. Remarkably, three temperature transitions and corresponding extremum values, including positive and negative entropy change, are observed in NdMnO3.

Thermodynamics of high entropy oxides

Scott J. McCormack et al.

Summary: The hype of high entropy alloys, ceramics, and oxides has led to the development of new systems with targeted applications. However, it is important to consider thermodynamic constraints when designing HEOs to achieve unique properties and solubility limits. Surface energies and non-ideal interactions play crucial roles in the stability and behavior of HEOs, while nano-materials offer novel approaches to expand the engineering space of HEOs.

Magnetic properties of high entropy oxides

Abhishek Sarkar et al.

Summary: High entropy oxides (HEOs) are single phase solid solutions with extreme chemical complexity, containing multiple elements in equiatomic proportions incorporated into the cationic sub-lattice. The unique feature of HEOs lies in their unusually large number of different metal-oxygen-metal couples, which can affect magnetic correlations and potentially lead to stabilization of unconventional spin-electronic states. Further research and exploration of potential functionalities in HEOs are discussed in this Frontier article.
