Shape Memory Characteristics of Silver-Added Fe-30Mn-6Si Alloy

N. Babacan

Summary: This study investigates the effects of silver addition on the martensitic transformation temperatures, mechanical properties, and shape recovery performance of solution-treated Fe-30Mn-6Si alloy. The results show that silver addition decreases the martensite volume fraction, improves the mechanical properties and shape recovery performance, and the Ag-rich precipitates strengthen the austenite phase.

Biocompatibility Study of a Cu-Al-Ni Rod Obtained by Continuous Casting

Marko Lazic et al.

Summary: This study evaluated the biofunctional performances of Cu-Al-Ni alloy produced by continuous casting, and found that the alloy has a good shape memory effect. In neutral pH environment, the released ion amounts were small, while in acidic environment, a large amount of ions were released, indicating the corrosion resistance of the alloy in acidic environment. However, small doses of copper ions can promote cell proliferation.

Powder bed fusion of two-functional Cu-Al-Ni shape memory alloys utilized for 4D printing

Daniyal Abolhasani et al.

Summary: This study investigates the use of a novel two-functional Cu-Al-Ni shape memory alloy (SMA) consisting of two separate structures to enhance the recovery in SMAs. The first structure recovers at a lower temperature, while the second structure recovers at a higher temperature. Additionally, the formation of secondary martensite plates in the second structure enhances the overall recovery.

Effect of Nd addition on the microstructure, mechanical properties, shape memory effect and corrosion behaviour of Cu-Al-Ni high-temperature shape memory alloys

Xin Zhang et al.

Summary: The addition of rare earth element Nd can refine the grains, improve the mechanical properties, enhance the shape memory effect of Cu-13.0Al-4.0Ni-xNd high-temperature shape memory alloys. However, it slightly reduces the corrosion resistance of the alloys, which is mainly controlled by the Cu element.

The Grain Boundary Wetting Phenomena in the Ti-Containing High-Entropy Alloys: A Review

Boris B. Straumal et al.

Summary: This review analyzes the wetting phenomenon of grain boundaries (GB) by melt in multicomponent alloys without principal components (high-entropy alloys or HEAs) containing titanium. The study discusses complete and partial wetting, as well as the potential use of wetting in grain-boundary engineering to improve HEAs' properties.

Enhancing the shape memory effect of Cu-Al-Ni alloys via partial reinforcement by alumina through selective laser melting

Daniyal Abolhasani et al.

Summary: The study introduced a new method to enhance the shape memory effect and stability in Cu-Al-Ni shape memory alloys by partially reinforcing with alumina through selective laser melting. Partial reinforcement accumulates localized residual compressive stresses, increasing the shape memory effect, and a waistband effect is observed during cyclic compressive operation, facilitating higher strain recovery. These results confirm that partial reinforcement with alumina significantly enhances the shape memory effect of Cu-Al-Ni shape memory alloys.

Structural evolution of a CuZr-based bulk metallic glass composite during cryogenic treatment observed by in-situ high-energy X-ray diffraction

Peng Xue et al.

Summary: In this study, in-situ high-energy X-ray diffraction and molecular dynamic simulation were used to investigate the structural evolution of CuZr-based bulk metallic glass composites during cryogenic treatment. The pre-strained sample underwent martensitic transformation and reverse martensitic transformation, which were influenced by environmental factors and stress. The results provide insights into the mechanism of martensitic transformation in the B2 CuZr phase and offer guidance for fine-tuning the structure and mechanical behaviors of these composites.

Effects of alloying, heat treatment and nanoreinforcement on mechanical properties and damping performances of Cu-Al-based alloys: A review

Liu Yang et al.

Summary: Cu-Al based alloys are a new type of functional material with excellent damping performance due to their unique thermoelastic martensite structure. However, issues such as elastic anisotropy and large grain size can lead to a brittle fracture. Researchers focus on refining the grain size to design Cu-Al alloys with excellent mechanical properties and damping performance.
