Synthesis and photocatalytic property of a novel Ag2S/Bi12O17Cl2 photocatalyst

Yalan Zhao et al.

Summary: A new Ag2S/Bi12O17Cl2 composite with solar response was successfully prepared by coprecipitation method using Bi12O17Cl2, AgNO3, and Na2S as raw materials. The Ag2S/Bi12O17Cl2 was characterized through XRD, XPS, SEM, PL, and photocurrent analysis. The photocatalytic degraded efficiency of Ag2S/Bi12O17Cl2 was investigated for rhodamine B and crystal violet under simulated sunlight. The results showed that Ag2S/Bi12O17Cl2 composites effectively promoted the separation of photogenerated charge and enhanced light absorption ability compared to pure Bi12O17Cl2 and Ag2S. The photocatalytic degraded efficiency was significantly improved and remained stable. Finally, a reasonable mechanism was proposed based on the electronic band structures of Ag2S and Bi12O17Cl2.

A novel organic/inorganic S-scheme heterostructure of TCPP/Bi12O17Cl2 for boosting photodegradation of tetracycline hydrochloride: Kinetic, degradation mechanism, and toxic assessment

Chunchun Wang et al.

Summary: This study presents a visible-light-driven organic-inorganic S-scheme heterostructure photocatalyst with excellent performance in removing antibiotics from wastewater. By anchoring TCPP on the surface of Bi12O17Cl2, the S-scheme junction between TCPP and Bi12O17Cl2 was created, enhancing the visible-light response and accelerating the disintegration and conservation of photo-carriers. The resulting TCPP/Bi12O17Cl2 showed significantly improved photocatalytic activity and stability compared to Bi12O17Cl2. Through scavenging tests, LC-MS analysis, and toxicity calculation, the reactive radicals, degradation pathway, and eco-toxicity were elucidated. This research demonstrates the potential practicality of porphyrin-based S-scheme heterojunction photocatalysts for efficient antibiotic removal.

Engineering shape of BiOCl nanosheets with improved visible-light response for superior photocatalytic degradation of Rhodamine B

Tianyu Guo et al.

Summary: BiOCl nanosheets with adjustable shapes were prepared by a simple solvothermal method and their photo-degradation performance towards RhB was investigated. The BiOCl synthesized using CTAB showed excellent photoactivity with around 99% removal rate within 20 minutes under visible light, as well as outstanding recyclability and photostability. The enhanced degradation rate can be attributed to improved visible-light response, narrow band gap, and rapid charge carrier separation. Superoxide radical anions were found to be critical reactive oxidation species for boosting the photoactivity. This study highlights the exceptional potential of BOC-CTAB as a visible-light-driven photocatalyst for environmental remediation.

Hole scavenger-free nitrogen photofixation in pure water with non-metal B-doped carbon nitride: Implicative importance of B species for N2 activation

Jiale Lee et al.

Summary: This study presents a facile synthesis of defective and atomically thin g-C3N4 with boron sites as an efficient photocatalyst for solar-driven N2 fixation. The optimized catalyst achieved a high NH3 yield of 213.59 μmol gcat(-1) h(-1) under visible light irradiation in pure water, without the need for any hole scavenger. The superior performance can be attributed to the role of boron sites in N2 adsorption, activation, and reduction, as well as the shortened charge transport pathway, suppression of quantum size effect, and extended photo-response through bandgap reduction.
