Oxygen-doped and pyridine-grafted g-C3N4 for visible-light driven peroxymonosulfate activation: Insights of enhanced tetracycline degradation mechanism

Huawei Fang et al.

Summary: A new metal-free O-doped and pyridine-grafted g-C3N4 (OCN/Py) was prepared and used to degrade tetracycline (TC) with peroxymonosulfate (PMS) as oxidant under visible light irradiation. Doping of O and graft of Py into CN framework could enhance the separation of photogenerated charge carriers, the adsorption of PMS and TC, as well as PMS activation. The OCN/Py-PMS* complex was formed and mediated electron transfer for degrading TC. 97.0% TC was degraded after 60 min visible light irradiation in the presence of 0.16 g L-1 OCN/Py and 0.5 mM PMS. The work provides an effective way to change CN structure for boosting TC degradation and gives deep insights for the relationship among photo-generated charge separation, PMS activation and TC degradation.

Rational design of honeycomb-like APTES-TiO2/COF heterostructures: Promoted intramolecular charge transfer for visible-light-driven catalytic CO2 reduction

Lei Wang et al.

Summary: Utilizing organic structures to combine with TiO2 is an effective strategy for improving the photo-catalytic performance of TiO2. However, there is limited research on the impact of modulation at the organic molecular level for COF construction on the optical and electronic features of TiO2-COF heterostructures. In this study, a nitrogen-rich covalent organic framework (COF) was covalently integrated with amino-propyltriethoxysilane modified TiO2 (APTES-TiO2) through a Schiff-base reaction. The hybridized TiO2@TMP-COF with honeycomb-like morphology showed enhanced intramolecular charge transfer and photocatalytic CO2 reduction reaction (CO2RR) compared to the structure-similar COF established hybrid, TiO2@TM-COF. The study demonstrates the potential of creating heterostructures to improve light absorption and charge delivery in photocatalysis.

Facile synthesis of oxygen vacancies enriched ZnFe2O4 for effective photocatalytic peroxodisulfate activation

Xinyu Wang et al.

Summary: Water pollution is a pressing global environmental issue that requires immediate attention. Visible light-assisted catalytic peroxodisulfate (PDS) activation is an efficient advanced oxidation technology that holds great potential for treating organic wastewater. In this study, defects were introduced in ZnFe2O4 to create abundant oxygen vacancies (ZFO(v)), which not only enhanced the photocatalytic degradation of TCH, but also improved the activation of magnetic nanoparticles by PDS. The results showed that the ZFO(v)/PDS/vis system achieved a degradation rate of about 65% for TCH within 30 minutes, which was 1.23 times higher than that of the ZFO/PDS/vis system. Moreover, the degradation rate remained over 58% even after three reuse cycles, with minimal leaching of zinc and iron. The effects of pH, PDS concentration, humic acid, anions, and cations on TCH degradation in the presence of the ZFO(v)/PDS/vis system were also investigated. Overall, this study demonstrates the potential of surface engineering and PDS activation for designing highly efficient photocatalysts.
