High magnetic moment of nanoparticle-sphere-like Co, Fe based composites and alloys prepared by proteic sol-gel synthesis: Structure, magnetic study and OER activity

Rafael A. Raimundo et al.

Summary: This work investigates the magnetic behavior and electrocatalytic properties of CoFe2/CoFe2O4 composite and CoFe2 alloy obtained through proteic sol-gel synthesis. The samples were characterized using microscopy, XRD, Mossbauer spectroscopy, and magnetometry. The results show that both samples exhibit promising magnetic properties and demonstrate good electrochemical stability for the oxygen evolution reaction (OER). These materials based on transition metals, Co and Fe, have great potential in energy storage and conversion systems due to their high performance and low cost.

Agarose-gel-based self-limiting synthesis of a bimetal (Fe and Co)-doped composite as a bifunctional catalyst for a zinc-air battery

Yang Zhang et al.

Summary: In this study, a self-limiting method using agarose gel was proposed to prepare bimetallic (iron and cobalt) nitrogen-doped carbon composites (FeCo-NC) as efficient electrocatalysts. The optimized FeCo-NC catalyst exhibited a small potential difference between the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) half-wave potential and the oxygen evolution reaction (OER) potential, and demonstrated excellent performance in Zn-air batteries. This research provides an effective means of designing electrocatalysts and energy conversion systems.

Dependence of Structural, Morphological and Magnetic Properties of Manganese Ferrite on Ni-Mn Substitution

Thomas Dippong et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the influence of Mn2+ substitution by Ni2+ on the structural, morphological and magnetic properties of Mn1-xNixFe2O4@SiO2 nanocomposites. The results show that as the Ni content increases, the crystal structure, morphology and magnetic properties of the samples change. The samples annealed at higher temperatures have more crystalline structures, while those annealed at lower temperatures exhibit more loosely packed crystals. Additionally, these parameters are also larger for the samples annealed at higher temperatures.

Characterization of multifunctional nanocomposites assembled from Ag-decorated Fe3O4 and Eu-doped Y2O3

Ho Eun Back et al.

Summary: In this study, we report the characterization of trifunctional Fe3O4-Ag@Y2O3:Eu3+ nanocomposites with surface-enhanced Raman scattering (SERS), magnetic, and fluorescence properties. The Fe3O4-Ag@Y2O3:Eu3+ nanocomposites were prepared using a high-energy ball milling method, and the successful conjugation of Fe3O4-Ag and Y2O3:Eu3+ was confirmed. The nanocomposites exhibited strong enough magnetic property for effective magnetic separation and emitted strong visible red light under excitation at 250 nm. Moreover, the Fe3O4-Ag@Y2O3:Eu3+ nanocomposite substrate showed stronger SERS signals compared to the aluminum foil substrate. Therefore, these multifunctional nanocomposites may have promising applications in biomedical systems.

Impact of annealing temperature and ferrite content embedded in SiO2 matrix on the structure, morphology and magnetic characteristics of (Co0.4Mn0.6Fe2O4)δ (SiO2)100-δ nanocomposites

Thomas Dippong et al.

Summary: In this study, (Co0.4Mn0.6Fe2O4)(delta) (SiO2)(100-delta) nanocomposites were synthesized and their structure and magnetic properties were controlled by varying annealing temperatures and ferrite content. The results showed that the crystallite size increased with annealing temperature and ferrite content, with SiO2 exhibiting diamagnetic behavior and Co0.4Mn0.6Fe2O4 showing superparamagnetic-like behavior in the SiO2 matrix.

Investigation on the formation, structural and photocatalytic properties of mixed Mn-Zn ferrites nanoparticles embedded in SiO2 matrix

Thomas Dippong et al.

Summary: The structure, morphology, and photocatalytic features of Mn-Zn ferrite nanoparticles embedded in SiO2 matrix synthesized by a modified sol-gel method were investigated. Increasing the manganese content led to larger crystallite size, smaller energy band gap, and improved sonophotocatalytic activity in degrading Rhodamine B under visible light irradiation.

Effect of Silica Embedding on the Structure, Morphology and Magnetic Behavior of (Zn0.6Mn0.4Fe2O4)δ/(SiO2)(100-δ) Nanoparticles

Thomas Dippong et al.

Summary: The presence of SiO2 embedding affects the structure, morphology, and magnetic properties of (Zn0.6Mn0.4Fe2O4)(delta)(SiO2)(100-delta) nanoparticles synthesized by sol-gel method.
