Novel (1-x)NaNbO3-xBi2/3HfO3 based, lead-free compositions with stable antiferroelectric phase and high energy density and switching field

Lei Zhang et al.

Summary: Based on DFT calculation, a novel antiferroelectric composition (1-x)NaNbO3-xBi2/3HfO3(0 < x < 0.08) was designed and prepared, exhibiting well-documented double AFE loops both in macro and nanoscale. The modified compositions showed higher stored energy density, forward switching field, discharge current, and power density compared to other NaNbO3-based compositions. The addition of Bi2/3HfO3 also resulted in faster domain switching speed and a predictable increasing energy difference between AFE and FE phase.

Optimizing the energy storage and charge-discharge performance of borate glass-ceramics by adjusting the glass structure

Xinyi Du et al.

Summary: In this study, a niobate-based borate glass-ceramic system K2O-Na2O-Nb2O5-B2O3 is proposed for the first time. The presence of alkali metal oxides not only promotes the formation of ferroelectric crystalline phase for high permittivity, but also optimizes the borate glass network structure to enhance breakdown strength. The transformation of borate glass network structure effectively impedes carriers migration and reduces conductivity, resulting in high breakdown performance. The potassium sodium niobate borate glass-ceramic also achieves high discharge energy density, high power density, and rapid discharge rate.

High dielectric permittivity and dielectric relaxation behavior in a Y2/3Cu3Ti4O12 ceramic prepared by a modified Sol-Gel route

Jakkree Boonlakhorn et al.

Summary: In this study, Y2/3Cu3Ti4O12 ceramics were fabricated using a modified sol-gel method, and their structural, dielectric, and electrical parameters were systematically investigated. The results showed a fine-grained ceramic microstructure and high dielectric permittivity in the sintered samples. Density functional theory calculations and experimental verification revealed the presence of oxygen vacancies and charge compensation mechanisms in the ceramics, which might contribute to the semiconductive region and high dielectric permittivity. The findings suggest the potential application of Y2/3Cu3Ti4O12 in electronic devices.

Dielectric properties of BaTiO3-based ceramics are tuned by defect dipoles and oxygen vacancies under a reducing atmosphere

Menglong Wang et al.

Summary: The effect of Nb2O5 doping on the crystal structure, micromorphology, and dielectric properties of BaTiO3-2 mol% MnYbO3-2 mol% CaZrO3-x mol Nb2O5 ceramics was studied. It was found that the optimal dielectric properties were obtained at x = 0.5 mol%, with high permittivity, low dielectric loss, and large insulation resistivity. The analysis indicated that the increased permittivity was due to enhanced short-range hopping polarization triggered by the formation of defect dipoles and the release of oxygen vacancies.

Modification of grain boundary potential barriers by annealing treatments of PTCR ceramics with identical microstructure and room-temperature resistivity

Jennifer M. Prohinig et al.

Summary: The electrical properties of semiconducting BaTiO3-based ceramics are influenced by different oxidative post-sintering treatments, which modify the grain boundary potential barrier height and width by adjusting the concentration of vacancies. Additionally, annealing at 1100 degrees C affects the temperature development of spontaneous polarization by filling up oxygen vacancies within the grain bulk. These findings extend existing knowledge about defect equilibria in barium titanate and highlight the significant impact of process parameters on the electrical properties of electroceramics.
