A review of microstructure and texture evolution during plastic deformation and heat treatment of β-Ti alloys

Aman Gupta et al.

Summary: This study reviews the microstructure and texture evolution of near beta, meta-stable beta, and stable beta-Ti alloys during plastic deformation and annealing treatment. Factors such as shear bands, martensite, dislocations, and precipitation significantly affect mechanical properties, while the deformation process influences microstructure and texture evolution. The activation of deformation mechanisms and presence of certain phases impact the ductility and strength of beta-Ti alloys, demonstrating the complexity of their mechanical behavior.

Dynamic recrystallization behavior of a Mo-2.0%ZrO2 alloy during hot deformation

Zhaoning Xu et al.

Summary: In this study, the high-temperature deformation process of molybdenum alloy reinforced by 2.0%ZrO2 was investigated, and the microstructure evolution was analyzed. The relationship between deformation temperature, strain rate, and flow stresses was established. The research found that the alloy mainly undergoes dynamic recrystallization at high temperatures and low strain rates, with partial dynamic recrystallization occurring at high strain rates and low temperatures. Additionally, the alloy has low activation energy, making it suitable for hot working, and exhibits two typical textures after high temperature deformation.

Study on microstructure evolution and deformation mechanism of Ti-6554 based on power dissipation efficiency at supertransus temperatures

Changmin Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates the microstructure evolution and deformation mechanism of a Ti-6Cr-5Mo-5 V-4Al (Ti-6554) alloy during high temperature compression based on the power dissipation efficiency (eta). The results show that increasing the temperature and decreasing the strain rate can promote the dynamic recrystallization (DRX) process. Two types of DRX, namely, discontinuous dynamic recrystallization (DDRX) and continuous dynamic recrystallization (CDRX), are found. Moreover, by analyzing the change of eta throughout the strain range, as well as the peak eta under different conditions, this study establishes a link between eta and the corresponding deformation mechanism of the Ti-6554 alloy.

Dynamic recrystallization mechanism and near-isotropic mechanical properties of WE43 magnesium alloy sheets rolled at different temperatures

Qiankun Li et al.

Summary: The dynamic recrystallization behavior and mechanical properties of WE43 magnesium alloy during hot rolling were studied. It was found that at lower temperatures, the sheets cracked and no dynamic recrystallization grains were observed, with twinning contributing more to plastic deformation. However, at higher rolling temperatures, the alloy exhibited good rolling ability and slip dominated plastic deformation. The recrystallization mechanism involved continuous dynamic recrystallization, with grains nucleating along the original grain boundaries and geometrically necessary dislocations occurring within parent grains. Twin-induced recrystallization grains were also observed at the early stage of the rolling process at a specific temperature. Rolled sheets at suitable temperatures showed similar strength and fracture elongation, without obvious anisotropy.

Dynamic recrystallization behavior and numerical simulation of S280 ultra-high strength stainless steel

Kaiming Zhang et al.

Summary: The S280 ultra-high strength stainless steel was subjected to isothermal constant strain rate compression experiments to analyze its flow behavior and establish models for dynamic recrystallization. The results showed that the flow stress of the steel increased with increasing strain rate and decreasing deformation temperature. The distribution of dynamic recrystallization volume fraction and average grain size was non-uniform after thermal compression, and increased with increasing deformation temperature and decreasing strain rate. The numerical simulation results were in good agreement with the experimental results, providing a theoretical basis for microstructure control during thermal deformation.

The interplay relationship between phase transformation and deformation behavior during hot compression in a metastable β titanium alloy

Ke Hua et al.

Summary: The hot compression behavior of a metastable beta titanium alloy at 600 degrees C was investigated to analyze the correlation between phase transformation and deformation behavior. The study revealed the presence of four distinct stages in the deformation behavior: near linear hardening, discontinuous yielding, hardening after discontinuous yielding, and final softening. The phase transformation and movement of dislocations play crucial roles in the hardening and softening behavior at different stages of deformation.

Effect of temperature and strain rate on the deformation behavior of Ti5321 during hot-compression

B. Gu et al.

Summary: The deformation temperature and strain rate influenced the deformation mechanism and texture formation of the metastable beta-titanium alloy Ti5321 during hot-compression. Decreasing Zener-Hollomon parameter Z led to a shift towards dynamic recovery and dynamic recrystallization, resulting in a < 100 > < 111 > double-fiber texture. Dynamic globularization of the alpha-phase and promotion of beta-grain formation by continuous dynamic recrystallization contributed to the flow softening behavior of Ti5321.

Summary: The study found that the metastable beta titanium alloy exhibits various deformation modes during tensile process, including dislocation slip, phase interface shear, and grain boundary shear. Due to localized stress concentration and inhomogeneous deformation, microvoids are prone to form at positions such as grain boundaries, phase interfaces, tips of beta interlayers, etc. Additionally, crack propagation follows a zigzag path resulting in an intergranular and transgranular mixed fracture mode.
