A multi-country analysis of the prevalence and factors associated with bullying victimisation among in-school adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa: evidence from the global school-based health survey

Richard Gyan Aboagye et al.

Summary: The prevalence of bullying victimization among in-school adolescents in sub-Saharan Africa was 38.8%, with the highest rates in Sierra Leone and lowest in Mauritius. Factors associated with increased risk of bullying victimization included loneliness, anxiety, suicidal ideation, suicidal attempt, marijuana use, and truancy, while peer support was found to be a protective factor. Interventions such as Rational Emotive Behavioral Education, peer educator networks, counseling sessions, and substance use cessation therapy are important in reducing bullying victimization behaviors.
