Modulating light absorption and multiferroic properties of BiFeO3-based ferroelectric films by the introduction of ZnO layer

Kexin Li et al.

Summary: Pure bismuth ferrite (BFO), zinc oxide (ZnO), and BFO/ZnO and ZnO/BFO composite thin films were successfully fabricated using a sol-gel process. The composite thin films showed broader absorption range, lower leakage current density, and improved ferroelectric and magnetic properties compared to the pure films.

Observation of quasi-elastic light scattering in BiFeO3

Eiichi Oishi et al.

Summary: In this study, quasi-elastic light scattering (QELS) in BiFeO3 was observed using Raman spectroscopy over a temperature range of 300-860 K. The QELS exhibited two components: narrow and broad ones. The temperature dependence of the intensity and linewidth of the broad component differed below and beyond the Neel point, suggesting a possible magnetic origin of the broad QELS.

Elastic properties assessment in the multiferroic BiFeO3 by pump and probe method

Pierre Hemme et al.

Summary: Elasticity measurements were performed in the bulk multiferroic BiFeO3 using acoustical pump and probe spectroscopy. The determination of all C-ij elastic constants of BFO was successfully achieved based on initial input values and experimental velocities, with the propagation direction dependence of volume and surface waves phase velocities allowing the unambiguous assignment of the waves and polarization of phonons.

Terahertz-Field-Induced Changes of Electronic States Associated with a Polarization Modulation in BiFeO3

Naoki Sono et al.

Summary: Through terahertz pulse control of the optical response in the ferroelectric crystal BiFeO3, it was observed that the electric-field induced changes mainly affect the intensity of d-d transitions in iron ions, while having little impact on the wavefunction of valence electrons.
