Removal of toxic lead from aqueous solution using a low-cost adsorbent

Mohammad Hadi Dehghani et al.

Summary: The use of pottery granules (PG) as an adsorbent for removing toxic metal Pb(II) from drinking water was studied. The physicochemical factors such as contact time, PG dose, pH, solution temperature, and coexisting ions were investigated. The results showed that PG had efficient adsorption capacity for Pb(II), with removal increasing with increasing PG dose and agitation time, and decreasing with increasing Pb(II) concentration. The adsorption process was described as favorable, with Pb(II) being adsorbed in multilayers onto the PG surface.

Lead, zinc, nickel and chromium ions removal from polluted waters using zeolite formed from bauxite, obsidian and their combination with red mud: Behaviour and mechanisms

Claudia Belviso et al.

Summary: Synthetic zeolites obtained from natural sources and waste material were tested for heavy metals removal. Zeolite X and sodalite synthesized from obsidian and red mud showed better adsorption capabilities compared to Zeolite A formed from treated bauxite. The adsorption mechanisms were attributed to ion exchange and precipitation, and the location of metal-ions inside the zeolite channels was determined. Different magnetic properties were also identified based on the raw materials used for synthesis.

Experimental and DFT studies on the characteristics of PbO/PbCl2 adsorption by Si/Al- based sorbents in the simulated flue gas

Shenghui Yu et al.

Summary: Mineral oxides are effective in-furnace sorbents for controlling lead emissions at high temperatures, and Si/Al-based compounds can chemically adsorb Pb. The temperature increase affects the Gibbs free energy of Pb adsorption, and high-temperature calcination alters the system's bond lengths and angles, leading to decreased Pb adsorption capacity.

Insights into the mechanism of lead species adsorption over Al2O3 sorbent

Aijia Zhang et al.

Summary: Al2O3 is considered an effective sorbent for capturing lead from flue gas. The study found that different species of lead have high adsorption capacity on the Al2O3 surface, with PbO showing the highest adsorption energy at the Al hollow site. Strong interactions between PbO, PbCl, and PbCl2 molecules with unsaturated Al atoms on the α-Al2O3 (110) surface are responsible for their capture by Al2O3. Overall, Al2O3 has a preference for capturing PbO over other forms of lead.
