Seismic performance evaluation of glulam structures with either braced frames or knee-braced frames as the main lateral load resisting system

Jing Luo et al.

Summary: This paper compares the performance of glulam knee-braced frames and braced frames under different seismic hazard levels using numerical models and dynamic analysis. The knee-braced frames have lower probability of damage at lower seismic levels, but their recoverability decreases with increasing structural height.

Machine learning-driven performance-based seismic design of hybrid self-centering braced frames with SMA braces and viscous dampers

Shuling Hu et al.

Summary: A hybrid self-centering braced frame equipped with shape memory alloy-based self-centering braces and viscous dampers is proposed in this paper to achieve enhanced seismic performance. The design parameters of the self-centering braces and viscous dampers are investigated through parametric dynamic analyses, and a prediction model and performance-based design method are developed. The results show that the hybrid self-centering braced frames can achieve the desired performance objective and have smaller base shear demand and floor acceleration responses compared to the frames with self-centering braces only.
