Two synthetic zeolites Na-P1 and Na-X derived from fly ash, natural clinoptilolite (ZN-C) and diatomite were investigated in terms of BTX trapping from gas streams. Various methods were used for the sorbents characterization (X-ray diffraction, X-ray fluorescence, scanning electron microscope, infrared spectroscopy, and nitrogen adsorption/desorption isotherm). BTX sorption performance was explained based on TPD results. The impact of texture, porosity, and channel structure on the sorption behavior as well as adsorbate - adsorbent interactions were discussed. It was determined that the main factor influencing adsorption properties of zeolites towards BTX compounds was zeolite pore structure. The sorption capacities of the tested materials followed the order: xylenes > toluene > benzene. Na-X exhibited the greatest sorption performance (383.67-582.91 mu g/g) and the highest affinity indexes (Delta T) for BTX which implies its philic character to the adsorbates. (C) 2015 Elsevier Inc.
