NH3 capture and detection by metal-decorated germanene: a DFT study

Akari Narayama Sosa et al.

Summary: This study investigates the adsorption behavior of ammonia on pristine and metal-decorated germanene using a first-principles approach. The results show that metal-decorated germanene exhibits enhanced adsorption properties for ammonia molecules, especially in the case of Sc, Mg, and Li atoms. The adsorption energy and desorption time calculations suggest that Sc-decorated germanene can effectively trap ammonia at room temperature.

The Influence of Ionic Liquids Adsorption on the Electronic and Optical Properties of Phosphorene and Arsenene with Different Phases: A Computational Study

Lin Zhu et al.

Summary: Density functional theory (DFT) calculations were used to investigate the interfacial interactions of ionic liquids (ILs) on different phases of phosphorene (P) and arsenene (As). The results show that the interaction between ILs and P, As nanosheets is dominated by noncovalent forces, and the most stable adsorption structures are characterized by the simultaneous interaction of the cation and anion with the surface. IL adsorption has a larger impact on the electronic properties of beta-phase P and As compared to their alpha-phase counterparts, indicating that the adsorption properties are closely related to the phase structures.

Optical conductivity and far-field radiation of silicene

Wen-Ri Qian et al.

Summary: This study analyzes the heat and angular momentum radiation from silicene and explores the relationship between the radiation and spin-orbit coupling parameters. The results demonstrate the influence of various parameters, such as temperature and sublattice potential, on the optical conductivity and radiation of silicene. Particularly, the threshold frequency of optical conductivity leads to the occurrence of a second peak in the energy radiation spectrum. Additionally, the ratio of the perpendicular electric field to the intrinsic spin-orbit coupling is found to be related to the strength of angular momentum radiation.

Transition metal-decorated germanene for NO, N2 and O2 sensing: A DFT study

Akari N. Sosa et al.

Summary: This study investigates the chemical interactions between NO, O-2, and N-2 gas molecules and Cu-, Ag-, and Au-decorated germanene using density functional theory simulations. The results show that molecule-metal-germanene complexes have larger adsorption energies and enhanced sensing capabilities, making them promising candidates for gas sensors or scavengers. The study also suggests the stability of these complexes in ambient conditions and the potential application in sensing and scavenging nitrogen monoxide.

Symmetry breaking induced bandgap opening in epitaxial germanene on WSe2

Qilong Wu et al.

Summary: Researchers have successfully synthesized quasi-freestanding germanene with linear dispersion band structure on a WSe2/Au(100) substrate. They found that the interaction between germanene and the substrate destroys the sublattice symmetry and affects its electronic properties. Upon annealing in ultra-high vacuum, a bandgap opening of about 0.17 eV was observed in germanene, providing an effective method to tune its electronic properties.

Designing doping strategy in arsenene monolayer for spintronic and optoelectronic applications: a case study of germanium and nitrogen as dopants

Vo Van On et al.

Summary: In this study, the structural, electronic, and magnetic properties of arsenene monolayer doped with germanium and nitrogen atoms were investigated using density functional theory calculations. It was found that germanium doping induced magnetic semiconductor behavior, while nitrogen doping preserved the non-magnetic nature of the monolayer. Different doping concentrations and configurations resulted in different electronic properties and stability.

Geometric, spintronic, and opto-electronic properties of 3d transition metals doped silicene: An ab initio study

Basheer Ahmed Kalwar et al.

Summary: This study demonstrates the impact of 3d transition metal doping on the properties of silicene using density functional theory. The results show that the geometric, spintronic, and optoelectronic properties of silicene can be altered significantly by 3d TM doping. Different transition metals lead to different formation energies and magnetic properties, with Sc and V doping showing p-type doping and Cr-Si and Mn-Si systems exhibiting half-metallic behavior. Additionally, 3d TM-Si systems show significant photoabsorption.
