A Job-Shop Scheduling Problem with Bidirectional Circular Precedence Constraints

Pisut Pongchairerks

Summary: This paper introduces a job-shop scheduling problem called BCJSP and proposes a multi-level metaheuristic approach to solve it. The top-, middle-, and bottom-level algorithms are utilized, with the top algorithm controlling start operations and operation-precedence-relation directions, the middle algorithm controlling input parameters, and the bottom algorithm solving the subproblem of BCJSP. Performance evaluation shows that including an extra function in the multilevel metaheuristic significantly improves results.

Evolving Scheduling Heuristics via Genetic Programming With Feature Selection in Dynamic Flexible Job-Shop Scheduling

Fangfang Zhang et al.

Summary: A novel two-stage GPHH framework with feature selection is designed in this article to automatically evolve scheduling heuristics in DFJSS, and individual adaptation strategies are proposed to utilize information. Results show that the proposed algorithm can successfully achieve more interpretable scheduling heuristics with fewer unique features and smaller sizes, and reach comparable scheduling heuristic quality with much shorter training time than traditional algorithms.
