Channel Structures of Online Retail Platforms

Albert Y. Ha et al.

Summary: This paper investigates the channel choice problem of an online platform that exerts service effort to enhance the demand in its sales channels. The study explores the phenomenon where many manufacturers sell the same products through both channels of the same online retail platform. The research highlights the flexibility of a dual channel for firms to shift sales between the two channels.

Pareto optimality and contract dependence in supply chain coordination with risk-averse agents

Juzhi Zhang et al.

Summary: In this paper, the authors provide a comprehensive analysis of supply chain coordination (SCC) with risk-averse agents. They find that achieving Pareto optimality (PO) depends on the contract type and present challenges when using it as the criterion for SCC. The authors also explore multiretailer, multimanufacturer, and multitier supply chains and design coordinating contracts to achieve PO. However, identifying PO becomes difficult when considering other risk-aversion criteria. The paper concludes by offering suggestions and methods for SCC when PO cannot be identified.

Supply chain coordination through capacity reservation contract and quantity flexibility contract

Jianbin Li et al.

Summary: This study investigates a supply chain with uncertain demand and price, proposing capacity reservation and quantity flexibility contracts to enhance overall performance and profits. The contracts can coordinate the supply chain effectively and are preferred by retailers under coordination, even when demand and retail price are correlated.

Capacity Investment, Production Flexibility, and Capital Structure

Peter Ritchken et al.

Summary: The study shows that firms with operational flexibility can utilize a larger tax shield by taking on more debt, but at the same time, taking on more debt may be less harmful for rigid firms, since it increases the default threshold and reduces the region where operational losses occur due to inflexibility. The research also demonstrates how the balance between the benefits of tax shields and the costs of default play out, with rigid firms utilizing more debt despite facing higher fair premiums from bondholders.

Summary: This study is the first to review the literature dealing with Revenue Sharing Contracts (RSCs), which have gained considerable popularity over the past two decades. The research aims to provide a comprehensive overview of the state of the art in the field and identify potential areas for further exploration, by analyzing 148 carefully selected papers on RSCs in operations research and management. The study classifies and discusses the reviewed papers in terms of contract types incorporated and research questions addressed, also providing mathematical formulations of prevalent RSC structures.

Supply chain coordination with competing suppliers under price-sensitive stochastic demand

Feng Wang et al.

Summary: This study investigates a supply chain with price-dependent stochastic demand and two types of customers: price-sensitive and brand-loyalty. The research shows that buy-back contracts cannot achieve coordination in such a supply chain, and the retailer has a unique optimal decision under certain mild restrictions.
