Metformin adsorption onto activated carbon prepared by acid activation and carbonization of orange peel

Oluwatimileyin Samuel Jimoh et al.

Summary: In this study, orange peels were acid modified to prepare an efficient adsorbent for metformin removal. The modified orange peels exhibited suitable functional groups and pore sizes for metformin adsorption. The optimum adsorption conditions were determined by investigating the effects of contact time, initial metformin concentrations, solution temperature, and pH. Isotherm and kinetic studies revealed the best-fitting models and mechanisms. Thermodynamic analysis showed that the adsorption process was spontaneous, feasible, and endothermic. The results of this study have significant implications for the development of efficient waste resource utilization.
