Synthesis of calcium carbonate-quince bio-composite for programmed and on-demand drug release of paracetamol at target site: a green chemistry approach

Rija Kulsoom et al.

Summary: In this study, an inorganic-organic composite system was developed through biomineralization of calcium carbonate in the quince-seed mucilage-based hydrogel. The drug-polymer interactions and particle flow characteristics of the developed composite material were investigated. The results showed good compatibility between the drug and excipients, and confirmed the presence of calcite polymorphs in the composite material. Controlled drug release was achieved in the system at pH 6.8, suggesting its potential as an effective drug carrier for colon targeted oral delivery of NSAIDs.

Fabrication of Stimuli-Responsive Quince/Mucin Co-Poly (Methacrylate) Hydrogel Matrices for the Controlled Delivery of Acyclovir Sodium: Design, Characterization and Toxicity Evaluation

Aysha Aslam et al.

Summary: A stimuli-responsive intelligent quince/mucin co-poly (methacrylate) hydrogel for controlled delivery of acyclovir sodium was fabricated through free-radical polymerization technique. The hydrogel matrices were evaluated through various parameters including drug loading, swelling kinetics, pH- and electrolyte-responsive swelling, and sol-gel fraction. The results showed high drug loading, pH-responsive swelling, electrolyte-responsiveness, and compatibility between drug and excipient. The hydrogel exhibited extended release of acyclovir sodium and demonstrated non-toxicity, highlighting its potential as a smart material for sustained drug delivery.

Formulation and evaluation of quince seeds mucilage - sodium alginate microspheres for sustained delivery of cefixime and its toxicological studies

Shazia Akram Ghumman et al.

Summary: Quince seed mucilage combined with sodium alginate was used to develop sustained-release microspheres of cefixime. The physical characterizations showed that the microspheres had maximum swelling at pH 7.4 and reduced swelling at acidic pH. The microspheres exhibited small average particle size and high drug encapsulation efficiency. The in vitro release of the microspheres followed the Korsmeyer-Peppas model, indicating sustained release of cefixime and improved antibacterial properties.

Solubility enhancement of poorly water soluble domperidone by complexation with the large ring cyclodextrin

Abbas Ismail et al.

Summary: Complexation of domperidone with large ring cyclodextrins can significantly improve its water solubility, with the LR-CD/DMP complex showing the most significant enhancement. The molecular dynamic results indicate that stable complexes are formed between DMP and CD33, leading to a 2.7-fold increase in DMP solubility.
