Antibacterial activity of nano zinc oxide green-synthesised from Gardenia thailandica triveng. Leaves against Pseudomonas aeruginosa clinical isolates: in vitro and in vivo study

Badriyah Alotaibi et al.

Summary: Metal nanoparticles show great potential as antibacterial agents to combat antibiotic resistance. In this study, zinc oxide nanoparticles (ZnO-NPs) were synthesized using Gardenia thailandica methanol extract (GTME) and their antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa clinical isolates was investigated in vitro and in vivo. The ZnO-NPs exhibited significant antibacterial activity with a decrease in membrane integrity and an increase in membrane permeability. Furthermore, the ZnO-NPs protected lung, liver, and kidney tissues from the deleterious effects of P. aeruginosa bacteria.
