Field evaluation of the three-dimensional dynamic stress state of the subgrade induced by the heavy-haul train load

Xinzhuang Cui et al.

Summary: The three-dimensional stress state of subgrade soil elements is essential in railway subgrade design and service life evaluation, particularly in heavy-haul railways. To address this complex field test problem, a new regular dodecahedron soil pressure sensor (RDSPS) was developed and applied to measure dynamic stress components (including normal stress and shear stress) in x, y, and z directions. Field tests of total stress components were conducted on the Datong-Qinhuangdao heavy-haul railway, revealing periodic fluctuations of dynamic stresses in the railway subgrade due to moving train loads. A calculation model and an empirical model were proposed to accurately predict stress attenuation coefficients. This study provides valuable guidance for understanding the dynamic response of the subgrade.

Dynamic response of unsaturated poroelastic ground underlying uneven pavement subjected to vehicle load

Xinzhuang Cui et al.

Summary: In this study, the dynamic response of unsaturated ground coupled with an uneven model due to vehicle load is investigated. The numerical results show that the additional dynamic load caused by the uneven pavement is affected by pavement roughness and vehicle velocity. The ground dynamic response is significantly and positively correlated with the axle load.

Effect of vehicle speed and overload on dynamic response of semi-rigid base asphalt pavement

Ogoubi Cyriaque Assogba et al.

Summary: The study investigated the effects of vehicle speed and traffic overload on the dynamic response and service life of a semi-rigid base asphalt pavement. A large scale three-dimensional viscoelastic finite element model was developed to simulate stress-strain responses under different load levels and speeds. The research concluded that vehicle speed and traffic overload can significantly impact the structural response and service life of the pavement.

Dynamic analysis of multilayered unsaturated poroelastic me dia subjecte d to a vertical time-harmonic load

Zi Ye et al.

Summary: This study establishes fully coupled equations based on a Biot-type model to describe the dynamic response of multilayered unsaturated media. The Hankel transform is used to convert partial differential equations into ordinary differential equations, which are then solved using numerical methods. The results demonstrate the significance of dynamic shear modulus, saturation degree, and stratification in influencing the dynamic response of unsaturated media.

The influence of cyclic loading on the response of soft subgrade soil in relation to heavy haul railways

Krishanthan Thevakumar et al.

Summary: The research combines traditional cyclic triaxial test results with dynamic hollow cylinder apparatus results to examine the relative influence of cyclic stress ratio and frequency on the behavior of soft subgrade. It was found that higher CSR values and lower frequencies induce greater permanent deformations and excess pore water pressures in the soil. PSR adversely affected the accumulation of axial strains and soil degradation, while pore water pressure development was less influenced by PSR.
