A scattering problem for a local perturbation of an open periodic waveguide

Andreas Kirsch

Summary: This paper investigates the propagation of waves in a two-dimensional open waveguide. By considering local perturbations of the index of refraction and applying a radiation condition, the uniqueness, existence, and stability of the solution are proven, and the decay order of the radiating part of the solution is determined.

Z-Transform-Based FDTD Implementations of Biaxial Anisotropy for Radar Target Scattering Problems

Yuxian Zhang et al.

Summary: In this article, a Z-transform-based finite-difference time-domain method is developed for analyzing electromagnetic scatterings in 3D biaxial anisotropy. The method considers the absorbing boundary condition and captures radiation with an electric dipole. Simulation results using COMSOL software validate the effectiveness of the proposed method for solving electromagnetic scattering problems under oblique incidence.

Modeling of Diurnal Variation Characteristics of VLF Wave Propagation in Earth-Ionosphere Waveguide With FDTD Method

Yurong Pu et al.

Summary: This letter combines Wait's exponential (EXP) model and international reference ionosphere (IRI) model to study the diurnal variation characteristics of very low frequency (VLF) wave propagation. The EXP model compensates for the subionosphere electron density lack in the IRI model. The combined IRIEXP model accurately characterizes the subionosphere details and provides higher accuracy in VLF diurnal variation prediction compared to the pure IRI model.

Impact of Three Solar Eclipses of 2019-2020 on the D-Region Ionosphere Observed From a Subtropical Low-Latitude VLF Radio Station

B. Das et al.

Summary: This study presents the ionospheric impact of three solar eclipses observed by VLF radio signals at a subtropical low-latitude station in India. The analysis shows positive, negative, and mixed-type amplitude deviations in VLF transmitters, which can be explained by the solar eclipse obscuration profiles. The study also reproduces the observed amplitude deviations using a propagation code and solar obscuration profile. Additionally, the effects of two solar eclipses on VLF signal propagation characteristics are analyzed, including a negative linear relationship between VLF signal attenuation and solar obscuration. The study further presents the reduction of D-region electron density profiles during the solar eclipses.

Numerical simulation of lower ionospheric reflection parameters by using International Reference Ionosphere (IRI) model and validation with Very Low Frequency (VLF) radio signal characteristics

Swati Chowdhury et al.

Summary: This study focuses on using VLF radio wave propagation characteristics and the IRI model to analyze the Earth's ionosphere, computing electron density profiles and generating parameter datasets at different time points for analysis of VLF signal amplitude variations. By conducting multiple experiments and utilizing data from multiple locations, the applicability of VLF signal amplitude profile models in India was ultimately validated.

Modified Lorentz Model-Based ADE-WLP-FDTD Method Simulation on THz Wave Propagation Properties of Tumor Tissue

Huami Tian et al.

Summary: An ADE-WLP-FDTD method based on the weighted Laguerre polynomials algorithm is developed to study wave propagation in biological tissue in the Terahertz frequency band. The modified Lorentz model is numerically solved and the effects of slide and medium parameters on THz waves propagation properties of biological tissue are investigated. This study enriches the high efficient ADE-WLP-FDTD method for terahertz imaging and tumor diagnosis.

A New Longwave Mode Propagator for the Earth-Ionosphere Waveguide

Forrest Gasdia et al.

Summary: This article introduces a new longwave mode propagation model that calculates distant fields generated by a dipole emitter in the Earth-ionosphere waveguide using mode theory, with a more robust mode finding function and a simplified model equation. The accuracy of the model is validated through comparison with other ionospheres, and the relationship between exponential and FIRI electron density profiles is briefly explored.

A Novel DGTD Method Based on the Current Density Equation for Magnetized Cold Plasma

Qian Yang et al.

Summary: A discontinuous Galerkin time-domain method based on the current density equation in a 3-D case is proposed for simulating electromagnetic waves in magnetized plasma. The algorithm avoids additional data storage and has a relatively high calculation speed, making it applicable for practical use. The algorithm is validated through numerical examples such as the Faraday rotation effect test and time-varying example.
