Surface Modification of Nano-Cu2O for Controlling CO2 Electrochemical Reduction to Ethylene and Syngas

Haiqiang Luo et al.

Summary: In this study, a systematic strategy is proposed to control the product selectivity of the electrochemical CO2 reduction reaction (ECO2RR) by modifying the surface of nano-Cu2O. By controlling the exposed facets of the nano-Cu2O catalysts and introducing a metal-organic framework (MOF) coating, the highest C2H4 selectivity and a suitable H-2:CO ratio of syngas can be achieved. This strategy provides a reliable method for CO2 management and the green production of important carbon resources.

Tandem catalysis on adjacent active motifs of copper grain boundary for efficient CO2 electroreduction toward C2 products

Tao Luo et al.

Summary: This study reveals that the tandem catalysis pathway on adjacent active motifs of copper grain boundaries (GBs) is responsible for the enhanced activity in C2+ production. The GB sites exhibit shorter bond length and stronger bonding with *CO, enhancing the adsorption of *CO. Moreover, CO2 protonation and C-C coupling are more favorable at certain motifs in the GB region compared to the Cu(100) site. These findings provide new insights into the CO2 reduction reaction process.
