Effect of Active Groups and Oxidative Dimerization on the Antimelanogenic Activity of Catechins and Their Dimeric Oxidation Products

Wei Wang et al.

Summary: This study compared the antimelanogenic activity of different catechins and dimeric oxidation products and clarified the mechanism. Results showed that pyrogallol and galloyl were the active groups inhibiting melanin synthesis, while oxidative dimerization weakened the antimelanogenic activity of the substrate-catechin mixture.

Effects of tea polyphenols on UVA-induced melanogenesis via inhibition of ?-MSH-MC1R signalling pathway

Jiaoquan Chen et al.

Summary: Tea polyphenols have been found to inhibit pigmentation by reducing melanin content and tyrosinase activity, and they suppress melanogenesis-related proteins by directly inhibiting the expression of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH).

From Melanocytes to Melanoma Cells: Characterization of the Malignant Transformation by Four Distinctly Different Melanin Fluorescence Spectra (Review)

Dieter Leupold et al.

Summary: The fluorescence emitted by pigment cells of the human skin, known as melanin fluorescence, is crucial for skin protection and the diagnosis of melanoma. A new method of laser spectroscopy has enabled the accurate measurement of melanin fluorescence, revealing distinct fluorescence spectra from different types of melanocytes. This information is essential for melanoma diagnosis and sheds light on molecular processes in melanosomes.

Antimelanogenesis Effects of Theasinensin A

Hye Yeon Lim et al.

Summary: Theasinensin A (TSA) has been shown to inhibit melanin formation and secretion, as well as down-regulate the expression of genes related to melanin formation. TSA can also suppress the activities of proteins in the melanocortin 1 receptor (MC1R) signaling pathway associated with melanin synthesis.
