Applications and challenges of ultra-small particle size nanoparticles in tumor therapy

Jiaqi Xu et al.

Summary: With the development of nanotechnology, nanomedicines are widely used in tumor therapy. However, biological barriers in the delivery of nanoparticles still limit their application in tumor therapy. In order to overcome this limitation, the use of ultra-small nanoparticles is proposed, which can facilitate deep tumor penetration and uniform drug distribution. This review systematically summarizes the latest progresses and advantages of ultra-small nanoparticles, as well as discusses the perspectives and challenges of their strategy for cancer treatment.

Govindaraj Sri Varalakshmi et al.

Summary: New materials with multi-directional therapeutic actions have been investigated in this study, focusing on size and shape control, surface modification, and controlled drug loading and release. Nickel sulfide and dysprosium-doped nickel sulfide nanoparticles with poly-β-cyclodextrin polymer coating are designed and synthesized. The nanoparticles exhibit multi-faceted properties such as magnetism, near-infrared absorption, and photothermal efficiency, and show soft ferromagnetic characteristics. In vitro studies demonstrate their anticancer and antibacterial activities, as well as the controlled release of encapsulated drugs. Dysprosium doping enhances the anticancer activity, while undoped nanoparticles exhibit significant antibacterial activity.

A universal chemical-induced tensile strain tuning strategy to boost oxygen-evolving electrocatalysis on perovskite oxides

Daqin Guan et al.

Summary: This study introduces tensile strain into perovskite materials through a facile thermochemical reduction method, improving material performance in the oxygen-evolving reaction. By modulating solid-liquid tension, the hydrophobic perovskite is transformed into a hydrophilic one, enhancing the adsorption of hydroxyl reactants. Surface-sensitive and bulk-sensitive absorption spectra confirm the effectiveness of this strategy in introducing oxygen vacancies and transforming local structures. Theoretical computations reveal reduced energy barriers for hydroxyl adsorption and optimized electron transport.
