MFG-E8 has guiding significance for the prognosis and treatment of sepsis

Summary: This study suggests that milk fat globule epidermal growth factor 8 (MFG-E8) plays an important role in sepsis. The research found that lower serum MFG-E8 levels are correlated with the severity of sepsis, and increasing MFG-E8 levels through treatment can suppress oxidative stress and ferroptosis in the livers of septic mice, leading to improved survival. Effect of Recombinant Human Soluble Thrombomodulin on Coagulation-Related Variables in Patients With Sepsis-Induced Disseminated Intravascular Coagulation: A Retrospective Observational Study

Summary: This retrospective study on sepsis-induced DIC patients treated with rTM found that improvement in coagulation-related variables after treatment was associated with DIC resolution and reduced mortality. Specifically, survivors showed significant improvement in platelet count, PT-INR, and FDP levels, while PT-INR levels before rTM treatment were lower in survivors and patients who achieved DIC resolution, leading to lower 28-day mortality rates. It suggests that early initiation of rTM treatment before significant PT-INR elevation may be crucial for improving outcomes in patients with sepsis-induced DIC. Conversely, treatment in patients with higher PT-INR levels may be less effective.
